Q ACOUSTICS 3040C FLOORSTANDING SPEAKER COMPLETES 3000C SERIES
The Q Acoustics 3040c is a new compact floorstanding loudspeaker that completes the company’s 3000c loudspeaker range.
Designed for listeners who want the scale and presence of a floorstanding speaker in smaller living spaces, the 3040c joins the existing 3010c, 3020c, 3030c, 3050c, 3090c and 3060s models in what Q Acoustics describes as its most affordable speaker series.
Q ACOUSTICS 3040C COMPACT FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER
The 3040c uses two 120mm (4.75-inch) C3 (Continuous Curved Cone) mid/bass drivers, a design shared across the 3000c range. According to Q Acoustics, the driver profile combines characteristics of both straight and flared cone designs to provide controlled bass performance, clear midrange reproduction and improved integration with the high-frequency driver.
For high frequencies, the speaker incorporates a 22mm tweeter derived from the company’s Concept Series. The tweeter is mechanically isolated from the cabinet in a sealed enclosure designed to reduce the effects of cabinet vibrations and internal pressure. A vented inner chamber also allows the crossover point to be set lower for smoother integration between the drivers.
CABINET DESIGN
The cabinet incorporates Q Acoustics’ Point to Point (P2P) internal bracing, which reinforces areas of the enclosure most susceptible to low-frequency vibration. The company says this helps improve stereo imaging and soundstage performance.
To reduce internal standing waves and cabinet colouration, the 3040c also uses Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser (HPE) tubes inside the enclosure. These are intended to manage internal pressure and improve frequency response.
DESIGN, FINISHES AND INSTALLATION
The 3040c follows the styling of the rest of the 3000c range, with curved cabinet profiles, concealed fixings and a one-piece driver trim finished in satin nickel, or satin chrome on the white version. Four finishes are available: Satin Black, Satin White, Pin Oak and Claro Walnut.
The speaker is supplied with an aluminium stabiliser and top-adjustable spikes for levelling. It also uses the low-profile recessed terminal panel first seen on the 5000 Series, allowing placement closer to a rear wall where required.
Q ACOUSTICS 3040C TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The Q Acoustics 3040c has a frequency response of 43Hz to 30kHz (-6dB), a nominal impedance of 6 ohms and a sensitivity rating of 88dB. Recommended amplifier power is between 25W and 120W. Each loudspeaker measures 942 x 285 x 281mm including its stabiliser and spikes, with a weight of 14.6kg.
