Spine Puts Your Streaming Collection On A Digital Shelf
Spine Music has launched a Kickstarter campaign for a wall-mounted display that turns a streaming library into a row of album spines. The idea is to make choosing an album feel more like browsing a shelf, without collecting another stack of discs.
At a £849 campaign price, with £949 planned afterwards, this is an expensive extra rather than a starter HiFi essential. It does not play audio itself: it hands playback to your phone and the listening system you already use.

Quick Reference
- Product: Spine wall-mounted album display and music browsing interface
- Price: £849 Kickstarter launch price; £949 afterwards
- Status: Crowdfunding campaign, initially for UK customers; not an in-stock purchase
- Services: Apple Music, Tidal and Spotify, with different setup and playback behaviour
Choose Albums Away From A Phone Screen
Spine shows albums as a browsable collection, giving saved music a visible place in the room. The attraction is the interface: seeing an album might remind you to play something you would otherwise overlook.
That is separate from improving sound quality. It does not replace your speakers, amplifier or the device actually playing your music. For a newcomer building a system, that distinction matters when deciding where the money should go.

The Streaming Service Changes The Experience
According to Spine, Apple Music supports automatic library syncing and playback when an album is tapped. Tidal also syncs directly, but needs a confirmation on the phone to play. Spotify uses a TuneMyMusic library import, which must be repeated when you want to add new albums, and playback also needs a phone tap.
Local music files are not supported at launch. The company is investigating them, but that is not a confirmed feature. As with any crowdfunded hardware, check the current delivery estimate and campaign terms before backing: a pledge is not the same as buying a finished product from a shop.
What The Terms Mean
Streaming library: Albums and tracks saved in a streaming account.
Sync: Keeping information updated between devices or services. I
nterface: The controls and display used to operate something.
Crowdfunding: Funding a project through pledges before delivery, with the risk of delays or non-delivery.
