Aussie trio Swazi Gold reveal new single ‘Shapeshifting’

Ahead of the release of their debut record ‘Jehovah’s Whispers’ on March 1st via Australian imprint Research Records, Swazi Gold have revealed a new single ‘Shapeshifting’, taken from it.

The track comes with a brilliantly trippy video directed by Ashley Goodall, who has recently worked with Tim Presley’s White Fence on the track ‘Phone’ and others, and illustration from Melbourne artist and friend, Ben Jones.

Described by Clash as “an enticing preview” to the album, they also complimented the single’s “simple set up pitting twinkling alt-pop synth lines against a lo-fi feel.”

Swazi Gold draw on their collective love of Nigerian funk, American electronics, and quirky, melody-driven pop music to explore the spaces between conventional genres. Artists ranging from the likes of Haruomi Hosono and William Onyeabor to JJ Cale, Talking Heads, and Harry Nilsson form the reference points that give a spark to the band’s creative flame.
