Musical Fidelity B1xcd CD Player Costs £549

Musical Fidelity has introduced the B1xcd, a £549 CD player joining its returning B-Line range. It combines a dedicated disc mechanism, a built-in ESS DAC and an all-metal chassis, with connections for an amplifier or a separate DAC.

It is a dedicated source rather than an all-in-one system, so you will still need amplification and speakers. It can sit alongside a turntable or streamer, giving you another way to explore and collect albums.

Quick Reference

Price: £549.

UK availability: From 27 October 2026 through Henley Audio’s authorised dealers.

Playback: Tray-loading CD player built for the Red Book CD-DA standard.

Inside: BlueTiger CD-88 servo system and ESS9018Q2M DAC.

Outputs: Stereo analogue RCA, coaxial digital and optical digital.

Controls: Front-panel buttons, LCD display and supplied remote.

Size and weight: 430 × 90 × 298mm including feet and terminals; 5.8kg.

A New Partner For The B Line

The B-Line first appeared in the 1980s, aiming to make Musical Fidelity’s audio engineering more accessible. It returned in 2025 with the B1xi integrated amplifier. The B1xcd adds a matching CD source; pair the two with speakers for a separates system.

Built Around Playing CDs

A purpose-built CD transport works with the BlueTiger CD-88 servo system to read discs. The ESS9018Q2M DAC then converts their digital information into an analogue audio signal for an amplifier.

The LCD shows track and time information. Artist and track names can also appear when the disc contains CD-Text. An all-metal chassis and machined aluminium front panel complete the construction.

Two Ways To Connect

Connect the analogue RCA outputs to a suitable line-level amplifier input to use the player’s internal DAC. Alternatively, the optical or coaxial digital output can feed a separate DAC. That gives you options for an existing or future setup, but an external DAC is not required.

What The Terms Mean

CD Transport: The mechanism that spins the disc and reads its digital information.

Red Book CD-DA: The technical standard for conventional audio CDs.

Servo System: Electronics that control the mechanism and keep the laser reading the correct part of the disc.

DAC: A digital-to-analogue converter, turning digital music data into an audio signal for amplification.

Outputs: Stereo RCA connections carry analogue audio; optical and coaxial outputs carry digital audio to a separate DAC.
