REL Reference No.35 And No.36 Subwoofers

REL ACOUSTICS REFERENCE NO.35 AND NO.36 INTRODUCED AS NEW REFERENCE SERIES MODELS

REL Acoustics has announced two new models for its REL Reference Series of subwoofers, the REL Reference No.35 and REL Reference No.36.

REL Acoustics says the new models introduce updated amplifier and driver technologies, with the amplifier architecture forming the starting point for the latest designs.

REL REFERENCE NO.35 AND NO.36 SUBWOOFERS

Both models use REL’s new Class AB/D amplifier architecture, combining the current delivery of a traditional Class A/B power supply with the speed and efficiency of Class D. Reference No.36 is rated at 1,000 watts RMS, while Reference No.35 delivers 900 watts RMS. Both use a 17-pound toroidal transformer.

REL REFERENCE NO.36 DRIVER

Reference No.36 uses a 15-inch (380mm) Reference driver incorporating REL’s 12K Pure Carbon Fibre technology. The driver also has a revised suspension intended to allow greater movement. The resulting specification gives the No.36 an extension to -6dB at 15Hz.

REL REFERENCE NO.35 DRIVER

The Reference No.35 features a 12-inch (300mm) driver with a new cast-aluminium frame and redesigned suspension. REL says the driver has an additional 12mm of travel in each direction compared with the No.31, along with a finer 12K carbon fibre weave. The No.35 is specified to extend to -6dB at 17Hz.

REFERENCE CABINET CONSTRUCTION

The new electronics and drivers are housed in REL’s curvilinear Reference cabinets. According to the press release, the cabinets are inspired by classic wooden runabouts and the work of designer Franco Serblin, and use 12 coats of hand-rubbed lacquer. Internal bracing is used to keep the enclosure rigid.

REL REFERENCE LINE ARRAYS

Both new models are designed to work alongside earlier Reference Series models in REL Line Arrays. Reference No.36 retains the dimensions of previous 15-inch Reference models, while No.35 has the same dimensions as the No.31. REL says this allows existing owners to incorporate either new model into a Reference Line Array alongside earlier models.

REL REFERENCE NO.35 AND NO.36 PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

Preorders for the new Reference No.35 and No.36 are open as from 22nd September 2026 through authorised REL Reference dealers. The Reference No.36 is priced at $12,000 USD, while the Reference No.35 is $10,000 USD.
