SHANLING SM90 STREAMER DAC ANNOUNCED WITH EXTENSIVE CONNECTIVITY AND ANDROID PLATFORM
Shanling has introduced the Shanling SM90 Streamer DAC, a compact streamer DAC that combines network streaming, digital-to-analogue conversion and preamp functionality in a single unit.
The new Shanling SM90 Streamer DAC builds on the company’s existing digital range, aiming to offer a broad feature set within a relatively small footprint.
SHANLING SM90 STREAMER DAC
The SM90 is built around a custom streaming platform using a 64-bit ARM Cortex-A55 processor, supported by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 12 and features a redesigned user interface, accessed via a 4.96-inch touchscreen. Native support is provided for major streaming services including Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz, Apple Music and Amazon Music.
STREAMING AND CONNECTIVITY
Streaming options include TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay 2 and DLNA, allowing playback from a range of mobile and networked devices. Local playback is supported through NAS drives, USB storage and an internal M.2 SSD slot. Network connectivity is handled via Gigabit Ethernet and dual-band Wi-Fi 6, while Bluetooth 5.2 with LDAC, AAC and SBC codecs enables wireless audio reception.
DIGITAL AND ANALOGUE DESIGN
At its core, the SM90 uses a dual AKM AK4493S DAC configuration. The analogue stage is based on OPA1612 op-amps, with dedicated crystal oscillators for 44.1kHz and 48kHz multiples aimed at reducing jitter. The unit supports high-resolution audio up to 32-bit/768kHz PCM and DSD512.
SHANLING SM90 POWER SUPPLY AND BUILD
A linear power supply with a 35W toroidal transformer is included, reflecting a design approach often associated with larger components. The SM90 is housed in an aluminium chassis with a glass front panel, following Shanling’s current design language while maintaining a compact size.
SHANLING SM90 STREAMER DAC INPUTS AND OUTPUTS
The SM90 offers a wide range of connections, including coaxial, optical, USB DAC and HDMI ARC inputs. Analogue outputs are available on both RCA and balanced XLR, allowing integration with a variety of systems, from traditional HiFi separates to more modern AV setups.
SHANLING SM90 PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The Shanling SM90 is scheduled for release in May, priced at £999, $969 and €999.
