TOPPING DX5 II GETS HEADPHONE CROSSFEED WITH NEW FIRMWARE UPDATE

Topping DX5 II Gets Headphone Crossfeed Feature Via Update hifi news

Topping has released a firmware update for the Topping DX5 II DAC and headphone amplifier that introduces a user-selectable Headphone Crossfeed feature.

The update, firmware version v2.07, can be applied at no cost to all existing Topping DX5 II.

WHAT THE NEW TOPPING DX5 II HEADPHONE CROSSFEED FEATURE DOES

The Headphone Crossfeed processing is designed to give headphone listening a more speaker-like spatial presentation. It uses convolution-based processing to simulate head-related transfer functions (HRTF) and room acoustics, aiming to improve imaging accuracy and spatial depth while reducing the in-head localisation effect typical of headphone listening.

ALTERNATIVE MODE IN TOPPING DX5 II

Alongside the primary convolution-based mode, the update also provides a second, simpler crossfeed option based on the BS2B (Bauer Stereophonic-to-Binaural) algorithm. This mode seeks a natural, speaker-like experience while retaining more of the usual headphone sound characteristics, and may help to reduce listening fatigue on prolonged sessions.

The new Headphone Crossfeed joins a suite of existing user-adjustable sound tailoring tools on the DX5 II, including a parametric equaliser. Such features are noted for their flexibility and are comparatively rare in products at this price point.

Topping’s approach with this update underscores its focus on ongoing product development and on offering enhancements to current users without additional charges. Firmware v2.07 delivers these capabilities via a simple update process for compatible units.

TOPPING DX5 II HiFi PiG REVIEW

In HiFi PiG’s November 2025 review of the Topping DX5 II, reviewer Oscar highlighted the unit’s strong performance as a desktop DAC/headphone amplifier, praising its transparency, build quality and feature set. The addition of Headphone Crossfeed through a free firmware update aligns with the product’s position as a versatile option for headphone enthusiasts, which retails in the UK for £299, available through Electromod.
