KEF XIO SOUNDBAR BRINGS 5.1.2 HOME CINEMA TO A SINGLE ENCLOSURE
KEF has introduced the KEF XIO Soundbar, a 5.1.2-channel sound system designed to deliver spatial audio from a standalone enclosure.
The first soundbar from KEF, the KEF XIO, is powered by 12 Class D amplifiers and supports formats including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Sony 360 Reality Audio, offering compatibility with a broad range of immersive audio content.
KEF XIO SOUNDBAR
The KEF XIO Soundbar features six Uni-Q® MX drivers, a compact version of KEF’s well-established Uni-Q array, designed to produce an even sound dispersion across a room. Low-frequency output is handled by a pair of P185 LF drivers using P-Flex surrounds and arranged in a force-cancelling configuration. This design aims to reduce cabinet vibrations and distortion.

The P-Flex system, adapted from KEF’s KC62 and KC92 subwoofers, allows for greater driver excursion under pressure, contributing to deeper bass extension. KEF’s VECO (Velocity Control Technology) is used to monitor cone motion and apply corrective feedback to reduce distortion.
ROOM CALIBRATION AND SOUND MODES
The soundbar includes Intelligent Placement Technology (IPT), a calibration feature that adjusts output based on surrounding room elements and positioning. Preset modes are available, including Dialogue Mode—which enhances vocal clarity—and others for night-time use and music playback.
With 5.1.2 channel playback, the soundbar aims to position sounds in a three-dimensional space, including overhead effects, without requiring external speakers.
KEF XIO DESIGN AND BUILD
The KEF XIO Soundbar features an aluminium top plate and fabric covering. It is available in Slate Black and Silver Grey, with options for shelf or wall mounting. Despite its slim profile, the soundbar is designed to provide a relatively extended bass response through internal low-frequency drivers.
The unit’s cabinet houses the drivers in a configuration intended to deliver full-range audio without additional speakers, although an optional subwoofer can be added if required.
CONNECTIVITY AND STREAMING
Connectivity options include HDMI eARC, optical input, and RCA subwoofer output. Wireless connectivity is handled via KEF’s W2 Platform, supporting streaming from major platforms such as Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music, and Deezer.
Subwoofer expansion is possible via the optional KW2 RX receiver, which enables wireless pairing with compatible KEF subwoofers.

CONTROL AND CONFIGURATION
Users can control the KEF XIO Soundbar using the top panel, a remote control, or the KEF Connect app. The app includes standard and advanced EQ options, allowing for manual tuning in addition to preset modes.
KEF XIO SOUNDBAR PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
The KEF XIO Soundbar is priced at £1,999. The KW2 RX Receiver is available separately for £149.
HiFi PiG Says: A very serious-looking soundbar from KEF; we can’t wait to give it a listen.
