UNio FORMULA 12 INTRODUCES HYBRID DC POWER
Hong Kong brand UNio has launched the Unio Formula 12, a hybrid power supply designed for digital audio equipment including the company’s Poki network switch, as well as routers, network switches and other DC-powered devices.
UNio FORMULA 12 USES DUAL-STAGE POWER PROCESSING
The UNio Formula 12 uses UNio’s Dual Stage Hybrid DC Power design, incorporating a Magnetic Block Unit (MBU) and what the company calls its Formula Power Architecture. The MBU forms the first stage, processing the incoming AC supply to reduce noise and control voltage peaks and inrush currents before the AC-to-DC conversion stage.
UNio says this approach is intended to provide stable DC power for network and digital equipment.
UNio FORMULA 12 PROVIDES 12A OUTPUT
The Formula 12 has two 12V DC outputs, sharing a total output capacity of 12A and 144W. UNio states that the two outputs can provide up to 12A combined, allowing the power supply to be used with equipment requiring higher current levels. The supplied DC cables are 1m and 2m long and use 5.5 x 2.1mm DC plugs. The cables are described as having an audio-grade core and shielding.
UNio specifies conversion efficiency of close to 90%, with the design intended to reduce energy lost as heat compared with conventional linear power supplies. The company says the Formula 12 is designed to maintain a stable output while reducing unwanted noise and power fluctuations. The Formula 12 accepts 100-240V AC at 50-60Hz and uses an IEC mains inlet with a power on/off switch.
DESIGN AND SPECIFICATIONS
The Formula 12 measures 18 x 17.5 x 6.9cm and weighs 2kg. Its specified operating temperature range is -5°C to 65°C, with derating.
UNio says the Magnetic Block Units used in the Formula range are handcrafted, with the first Formula 12 units undergoing final testing ahead of shipment. The company also says that Formula 5 and Formula 15 models, offering different output voltage options, are planned for future release.

The UNio Formula 12 is priced at EUR 699 ex VAT. Availability information was not supplied in the press release.
