Topping has announced the Topping DX1 II, a compact DAC/headphone amplifier designed to improve audio performance from a wide range of digital devices, including computers, smartphones, games consoles, TVs, CD players and streaming devices.

The Topping DX1 II DAC and Headphone Amplifier connects via USB-C or optical input and converts digital audio into an analogue signal for headphones, powered speakers or HiFi systems. Available in the UK through Electromod.

The DX1 II includes USB-C and optical digital inputs, together with an optical output. It supports both USB Audio Class 1.0 and 2.0, allowing compatibility with devices including the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, alongside Windows, macOS, Android and iOS devices.

Headphone connections are provided via both 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced outputs. The 3.5mm socket also includes microphone support for compatible gaming headsets, enabling voice communication during online gaming or video calls. Stereo RCA and balanced 4.4mm line outputs can operate in either fixed-level or preamplifier mode, allowing connection to integrated amplifiers, power amplifiers or active loudspeakers.

TOPPING DX1 II FEATURES ESS DAC TECHNOLOGY

At the heart of the DX1 II is the ESS ES9039Q2M 32-bit DAC chip, combined with an XMOS XU-316 USB processor. Topping says the design uses fully balanced analogue circuitry throughout the signal path, while the headphone amplifier employs four independent channels for balanced operation via the 4.4mm output.

The USB input supports PCM audio up to 32-bit/384kHz and native DSD256, while the optical input handles PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz and DSD64 (DoP). According to the supplied specifications, the balanced outputs achieve a signal-to-noise ratio of 128dB, with THD+N quoted at below 0.00007% on the balanced line output. The headphone amplifier delivers up to 2 x 1000mW into 32 or 64 ohms and 2 x 230mW into 300 ohms.

TOPPING DX1 II INCLUDES DSP AND USER CONTROLS

The DX1 II incorporates a 10-band parametric equaliser, allowing users to adjust frequency, gain and bandwidth across ten configurable bands. Settings can be managed using Topping Tune software for Windows and macOS or through the browser-based Topping Home Web interface.

Additional features include eight selectable digital filter options, two headphone gain settings, an LED display showing volume and sample rate, automatic standby, a supplied remote control and USB-C to USB-C and USB-A to USB-C cables. The compact aluminium chassis measures 100 x 32 x 100mm and weighs 275g, making it suitable for desktop or portable use.

TOPPING DX1 II PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

The Topping DX1 II will be available from July in black, white or silver finishes. UK pricing is £119 RRP, and the product will be distributed in the UK by Electromod. A two-year warranty and UK-based technical support are included for products purchased through official UK stockists.

HiFi PiG says: Topping continues to release affordable products that appeal to a wide audience.
