Panasonic has announced the new PMX802 Premium HiFi System and Network Player, incorporating technology from Technics.

Inside the classically styled metal case are the traditional features that listeners expect, such as a CD player and DAB radio, but also the capability to play Hi-Res Audio from USB, or stream it using Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth.

The Panasonic PMX802 features the Technics JENO Engine amplifier. “It’s an honour to have the Technics JENO Engine inside the Panasonic PMX802. It takes our acclaimed PMX Series hi-fi systems up a level,” says Masaaki Suna, General Manager Home AV Group, Panasonic Marketing Europe.

The Panasonic PMX802 has 3-way speakers which feature silk dome tweeters, capable of reaching frequencies as high as 50kHz. The speakers’ wooden cabinets are finished with a black finish on the front surface.

CD High-Res Re-Master does exactly as it sounds, it helps CD tracks to sound even better. Similar processing is also used to re-master music streamed by Bluetooth, and MP3 music files from a USB source.

“We recognise that many consumers have CD collections that they don’t want to replace. CD High-Res Re-Master lets them hear those songs with a fresh feel,” explains Masaaki Suna. “The changing ways listeners want to hear music are addressed by PMX802. They’ve the freedom to explore new music with Hi-Res streaming or to listen to favourite CDs.”

With Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth®, the PMX802 has streaming covered. Chromecast built-in is compatible with many Hi-Res Audio services, including Tidal. The USB socket on PMX802’s front panel makes it easy to play music from a USB drive. The system is compatible with many Hi-Res Audio standards, including FLAC. Lower-res files such as MP3s are digitally re-mastered to.

The Panasonic PMX802 has both optical and AUX inputs for TV connection. The AUX input’s auto-play function means the hifi system automatically starts when the TV is switched on. The TV’s remote control can be used to adjust the volume of the system’s sound.

Wi-Fi network connection, as well as DAB and FM radio tuners, keep the system in touch with the wider world. Rounding off this system are speaker connectors and a headphone socket.
