EXPOSURE 5510 PREAMPLIFIER AND EXPOSURE DS AUDIO PHONO BOARD ANNOUNCED
British HiFi brand Exposure Electronics has announced two new additions to its range, the flagship Exposure 5510 preamplifier and the Exposure DS Audio Phono Board, a dedicated upgrade option designed for use with optical cartridges.
The Exposure 5510 Preamplifier includes the Exposure DS Audio Phono Board as an option; the board is also available for other models and as an upgrade.
EXPOSURE 5510 PREAMPLIFIER
The Exposure 5510 preamplifier is designed as a standalone control unit within a separates system, handling signal management independently from power amplification. It features six line-level inputs for analogue sources and is intended to accommodate a variety of system configurations.
A modular architecture allows users to add optional internal boards, including MM, MC and DS Audio phono stages, as well as a DAC module for digital sources. This approach enables the unit to be configured according to system requirements at purchase or upgraded over time.
CONNECTIVITY AND CONTROL
Connectivity includes both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs, providing compatibility with a wide range of power amplifiers. Volume control is managed via a 99-step relay-controlled system designed to maintain channel balance and consistent level adjustment.
The unit is housed in a solid aluminium chassis intended to reduce vibration and minimise electromagnetic interference. Internally, a custom toroidal transformer with integrated shielding is used to support low-noise operation.

The 5510 supports a range of optional modules, including phono boards for moving magnet, moving coil and DS Audio optical cartridges, as well as a DAC board with BNC and optical inputs. These options are designed to extend the unit’s functionality across both analogue and digital playback systems.
EXPOSURE DS AUDIO PHONO BOARD
Alongside the preamplifier, Exposure has introduced the DS Audio Phono Board, a dedicated module designed specifically for DS Audio optical cartridges. The board acts as an interface between cartridge and amplification, providing the necessary signal processing and power supply for optical systems.
TECHNICAL DESIGN
The DS Audio Phono Board uses discrete transistor audio stages rather than integrated circuits, alongside passive equalisation designed to maintain phase accuracy. It also incorporates dedicated low-noise regulators for its audio circuitry and a specialised power supply for the optical cartridge, including over-current protection.
COMPATIBILITY
The board is compatible with several Exposure models, including the 3010S2D, 3510, 5010 and 5510 preamplifiers, as well as selected integrated amplifiers in the same ranges. It is also available as an option within the new 5510 platform.
