ELECTROCOMPANIET EC 5 PREAMPLIFIER LAUNCHES AT HIGH END MUNICH 2025
Norwegian HiFi brand Electrocompaniet will debut the long-anticipated Electrocompaniet EC5 preamplifier at High End Munich 2025, marking the culmination of over ten years of development.
The Norwegian HiFi specialist brings a refined blend of analogue purity, meticulous engineering, and a fresh take on its classic design language.
ELECTROCOMPANIET EC5 PREAMPLIFIER: PURE CLASS A PERFORMANCE
The EC 5 operates entirely in pure Class A and features a fully discrete, dual-mono topology. Each channel is driven by an independent power supply, incorporating 80VA toroidal transformers and 15,000μF of storage capacitance per channel. This robust power architecture is designed to maintain performance under any load, contributing to the EC 5’s ultra-low distortion levels and wide frequency response.

PROPRIETARY VOLUME CONTROL DEFINES THE ELECTROCOMPANIET EC5 PREAMPLIFIER
Central to the EC5’s design is Electrocompaniet’s proprietary volume control, the result of a decade of internal R&D. Abandoning mechanical switches and relays entirely, the volume is governed by parallel resistor networks controlled via custom electronic switches. The signal path remains constant regardless of volume level, preserving integrity through over 900 steps of 0.1dB resolution across a –100dB to +20dB range.
ADVANCED INPUT AND OUTPUT DESIGN ON THE ELECTROCOMPANIET EC5 PREAMPLIFIER
Inputs and outputs are extensive, with four balanced and two single-ended inputs per channel. Outputs include balanced and single-ended main outs, as well as dedicated tape outputs, all doubled per channel. Three 12V trigger outputs and an IR output are included for full system integration. The unit also supports Ethernet-based app control and firmware updates, offering both flexibility and future-proofing.
ENGINEERED FOR PRECISION
The EC 5 employs Electrocompaniet’s high bandwidth, high slew-rate AmpliWire topology, using fully discrete components with no signal-path capacitors. The circuit design ensures low negative feedback and is capable of driving long cable runs and low-impedance loads without compromise. Protective features include internal temperature monitoring and DC fault protection at the output.
AESTHETICS AND CONTROL
The front panel features a large acrylic face housing a tactile volume wheel and a 7-inch colour IPS display, echoing Electrocompaniet’s established design ethos while adding modern functionality. The EC 5 includes source naming, level matching, and visual mains voltage monitoring. The internal architecture separates the analogue circuitry from power and control sections for enhanced isolation and stability.
