COLINEAR ACOUSTICS DSP 8C BRITISH MULTICHANNEL DSP PREAMPLIFIER
CoLinear Acoustics, a new British HiFi company based in Fort William, has announced the release of its first product, the CoLinear Acoustics DSP 8C.
Launching on 6 August 2025, the CoLinear Acoustics DSP 8C is an 8 channel digital signal processor and preamplifier designed for both domestic and professional audio environments.
COLINEAR ACOUSTICS DSP 8C
The CoLinear Acoustics DSP 8C is aimed at listeners who require precise control over active speaker systems, crossover design and room correction. With its multichannel format and configurable output options, it is intended to suit a range of applications, including HiFi systems, studio environments and custom installations.
DIGITAL CORE OF THE COLINEAR ACOUSTICS DSP 8C
At its centre, the DSP 8C features a 1 GHz SHARC+ processor with dedicated IIR and FIR accelerators. It supports up to 348 IIR biquads and more than 49,000 FIR taps, operating at either 96 kHz or 192 kHz with full 24 bit resolution. This processing platform enables time and frequency domain adjustments across all channels.
CONVERSION STAGE IN THE COLINEAR ACOUSTICS DSP 8C
Digital to analogue conversion is handled by the ES9039SPRO DAC from ESS Technology, which uses HyperStream IV architecture. The DAC is paired with an output stage based on OPA1612 operational amplifiers. The system is specified with total harmonic distortion plus noise of -127 dB and a dynamic range of 130 dB, both unweighted.
INPUTS, OUTPUTS AND CONFIGURATION OPTIONS
The CoLinear Acoustics DSP 8C includes USB, coaxial and optical digital inputs. There are eight RCA and eight XLR outputs, each of which can be independently set to single ended or true balanced mode. Analogue output voltages are user selectable, ranging from 2.00 V to 2.50 V on RCA and 4.00 V to 5.00 V on XLR, for integration into different systems.
SOFTWARE CONTROL VIA DSPCONFIG
Control of the CoLinear Acoustics DSP 8C is managed through the DSPconfig application, which runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. The software provides a visual interface for setting crossovers, filters, time alignment and gain, allowing full access to the unit’s parameters in a format suitable for both technical and non-technical users.
MANUFACTURED IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
The DSP 8C is designed and made in the UK, with a compact format and practical accessories. It measures 330 mm wide, 180 mm deep and 110 mm high, with a net weight of 1.55 kg. It is supplied with a 22.5 W universal power supply, USB cable and infrared remote control.
