ADOT ONI-100 OPTICAL NETWORK ISOLATOR FOR RJ45-BASED SYSTEMS
ADOT has released the ADOT ONI-100 Optical Network Isolator, intended for HiFi systems that rely on standard RJ45 Ethernet connections rather than SFP network ports.
The ONI-100 brings the company’s optical isolation approach, previously seen in the MC-01 and MC-02, to a wider range of network setups.

ADOT says that network cabling within a home can act as a collection point for electrical noise, which may travel along Ethernet connections and into audio equipment. The ADOT ONI-100 addresses this by converting the incoming copper network signal to optical fibre inside the unit, then converting it back to copper before it reaches the HiFi system. This creates galvanic isolation intended to reduce electrical noise transmission.

Earlier ADOT solutions for systems without SFP ports required two separate media converter units. The ADOT ONI-100 combines the conversion stages into a single enclosure to make installation more straightforward for users working with conventional network switches or directly from a router.
ADOT ONI-100 DESIGN FEATURES
The unit includes a grounding post for systems that require an additional reference ground and vibration-damping feet for stable placement. Mounting brackets are supplied for optional rack or cabinet installation. The ONI-100 is supplied with a compact linear plug-in power supply, with the option to upgrade to a low-noise linear power supply if required.
Designer Alan Ainslie notes that while noise in analogue systems has been addressed for many years, digital audio can also be influenced by electrical interference delivered through network connections. The ONI-100 has been developed to isolate Ethernet input from the rest of the HiFi system and aims to minimise this potential noise path.
