The Spinning Room HiFi has announced Soft Light Sessions 2026, a series of five autumn evening events combining intentional music listening with contemporary art at Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley, near Leeds.

The sessions will take place in the 19th-century mill complex’s contemporary art gallery, alongside its Soft Light exhibition, which explores changing light as summer gives way to autumn. The events will feature candlelit seating and a pop-up bar for refreshments.

SPINNING ROOM HIFI CREATES A DIFFERENT LISTENING EXPERIENCE

Based at Sunny Bank Mills, The Spinning Room HiFi operates within a creative community of independent businesses, artists and cultural venues. The Soft Light Sessions bring the showroom together with the mill’s contemporary art gallery for a series of music-focused evenings.

Owner Paul explains that the events are not intended as equipment sales presentations or a traditional HiFi show. Instead, they offer music lovers the opportunity to enjoy recorded music in a distinctive setting.

“The Spinning Room HiFi” has curated world-class HiFi systems for each event to deliver an experience for those who attend that will be enveloping and captivating”

SOFT LIGHT SESSIONS FEATURE HIGH-END HIFI SYSTEMS

Each evening will feature carefully selected HiFi systems, with loudspeakers from Avantgarde, Stratton Acoustics, Ø Audio and Estelon among the brands included in the programme.

Vinyl playback will feature the Technics SL1000r turntable fitted with an Etsuro Urushi cartridge. Some sessions will also use valve electronics from Fezz Audio and Puresound.

The systems will be selected to suit the music being played, demonstrating how different recordings and musical styles can be experienced through a range of HiFi equipment.

SOFT LIGHT SESSIONS EXPLORE DIFFERENT MUSICAL GENRES

The five evenings will cover a variety of musical styles, including ambient, industrial, jazz and Balearic music. The final session will focus on soul, funk and disco. The programme aims to bring together music enthusiasts for shared listening, with the art exhibition providing the visual backdrop to the sessions.

Paul explains the thinking behind the events:

“Think of the Soft Light Sessions as the Northern England’s version of a Japanese Kissa but on industrial steroids”
