IFI IDSD GR2 MT PORTABLE DAC/AMP GETS STUDIO-INSPIRED UPGRADES
iFi audio has announced the iFi iDSD GR2 MT, a Master Tuned version of its iDSD GR2 portable DAC/amp, developed with British record producer Steve Levine.
The iFi iDSD GR2 MT adds component-level changes and two digital filters voiced by Levine, with the design process focused on reproducing the authenticity and emotion of recorded performances.

iFi iDSD GR2 MT COMPONENT UPGRADES
The GR2 MT replaces the standard FR-4 circuit board with an aerospace-grade hydrocarbon ceramic PCB. The high-resolution colour touchscreen also gains an illuminated silkscreen logo. Other changes include an OV4627A DAC I/V stage with audiophile-grade tantalum resistors, replacing the OVA2637 stage and standard surface-mount resistors used in the GR2. The amplifier stage also moves from standard electrolytic capacitors to Audio Note Kaisei capacitors.

DAC AND DIGITAL FILTERS
At the heart of the iDSD GR2 MT is the Burr-Brown PCM1795 DAC, alongside Levine’s two exclusive digital filters and JVCKENWOOD’s K2HD Technology. The unit is specified to deliver more than 1,500mW RMS into 32 ohms and uses an OLED display with capacitive touchscreen control.

iFi iDSD GR2 MT CONNECTIVITY
Wireless playback is supported through Bluetooth 5.4, including aptX Lossless and LDAC. The GR2 MT also has a desktop mode that allows the internal battery to be bypassed when used as a stationary device. Hybrid power modes are designed to help extend battery lifespan, while both digital and analogue connections are provided. The unit is also compatible with the iFi Nexis app for over-the-air updates and additional control.
iFi iDSD GR2 MT PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The iDSD GR2 MT is available priced at £699, $699 USD, €729 or CA$799.99.
HiFi PiG says: The iDSD GR2 MT takes the existing iDSD GR2 platform and introduces a range of component changes alongside two Steve Levine-voiced digital filters. The combination of portable DAC/amp functionality, high power output, Bluetooth connectivity and desktop use gives the new model a broad range of applications, while the involvement of a record producer adds a studio perspective to the revised design.
