Lithuanian company Silent Pound has announced the Silent Pound Parallax, a new passive 3.5-way loudspeaker designed around controlled directivity across its operating range, including the bass.
SILENT POUND PARALLAX DESIGN
Silent Pound says the Silent Pound Parallax design follows the engineering approach established by its Challenger and Bloom models, with the aim of reducing the influence of room reflections and maintaining a consistent tonal balance between different listening environments.
Each Parallax loudspeaker uses four 15-inch woofers in a folded-dipole configuration. According to Silent Pound, this bass arrangement is intended to combine low-frequency extension with controlled radiation and the ability to reproduce demanding musical peaks. The loudspeaker is designed for medium-sized and large listening rooms.
SILENT POUND PARALLAX MIDRANGE AND HIGH FREQUENCIES
The midrange and high-frequency section features four midrange drivers alongside a centrally positioned horn-loaded compression driver. Silent Pound describes this arrangement as forming a virtual coaxial source and incorporating its patent-pending midrange acoustic technology. The company says this configuration also forms part of the loudspeaker’s approach to directivity control.
SILENT POUND PARALLAX SPECIFICATIONS
The Parallax has a stated frequency response of 24 Hz–20 kHz (±3 dB) and an overall sensitivity of 91 dB at 1 W. The speaker can be used with a single amplifier or in bi-amping mode, with a dedicated switch provided for selecting between the two. In bi-amping mode, the sensitivity of the midrange and high-frequency section increases to 97 dB, while the bass section remains unchanged. Passive crossover filtering is retained in both configurations.
The front of the loudspeaker is made from oak and supported by an aluminium structural frame. Professional-series drivers are combined with passive crossover components, while the crossover itself is planned to be displayed behind tempered glass. The Parallax will also be fitted with Stack Audio AUVA 70 vibration-absorbing feet.
