Topping E50 II DAC hifi news

Topping has announced the Topping E50 II DAC, a compact digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) designed for both home audio and studio use.

The new Topping E50 II DAC joins the company’s E Series range and combines DAC and preamplifier functionality in a compact chassis, while omitting a built-in headphone amplifier, and is available through Electromod in the UK.

TOPPING E50 II FEATURES AKM DAC TECHNOLOGY

At the heart of the E50 II is the AKM AK4497S DAC chip, part of AKM’s latest Velvet Sound generation introduced in 2025. Topping has paired the chip with its own TopSync jitter reduction system, which uses FPGA-based processing and PLL synchronisation to minimise timing errors in digital signals. According to the company, the DAC delivers a dynamic range of 131dB and THD+N figures of 0.0001% at 1kHz.

TOPPING E50 II CONNECTIVITY AND DESIGN

The DAC is housed in an aluminium enclosure measuring 129 x 41 x 155mm and is available in black, white or silver finishes. Digital inputs include USB-C, optical and coaxial connections, alongside a dedicated USB-C power input. Analogue outputs are provided via both RCA and balanced 6.35mm TRS connections, which can operate simultaneously and be configured independently. The unit can be used either as a fixed-output DAC or as a digital preamplifier with volume control.

HIGH-RESOLUTION AUDIO AND BLUETOOTH SUPPORT

The E50 II uses a 16-core XMOS XU316 processor and supports PCM audio up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD512 playback. Wireless connectivity is also included, with Bluetooth support handled by a Qualcomm QCC5125 chipset. Supported codecs include LDAC, aptX Adaptive and aptX HD, allowing high-resolution wireless streaming from compatible devices.

TOPPING E50 II APP CONTROL AND EQ OPTIONS

Topping’s new Home app for iOS and Android provides configuration and control via Bluetooth, eliminating the need for a Wi-Fi connection. Through the app, users can adjust volume, switch inputs, select digital filters and configure the DAC’s built-in 10-band parametric EQ system. The E50 II can also be operated using the supplied remote control or the touch-sensitive front-panel control.

In addition to domestic audio applications, the E50 II includes features aimed at studio users. Its optical input can automatically detect and decode both standard S/PDIF and ADAT signals, allowing integration with professional recording and monitoring setups. User-selectable output levels are also available, with maximum outputs of 11.3Vrms via the balanced TRS outputs and 5.6Vrms through RCA connections.

TOPPING E50 II TO LAUNCH AT NORTH WEST AUDIO SHOW 2026

The Topping E50 II will make its UK launch at the North West Audio Show 2026, taking place later this month at Cranage Hall, Cheshire. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the new DAC alongside other products from the Topping range.

TOPPING E50 II PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

The Topping E50 II is available in black, white and silver finishes and is now shipping in the UK through Electromod. UK pricing is set at £199 RRP, and purchases through authorised UK retailers include a two-year warranty and UK-based technical support.
