XACT N1 NETWORK SWITCH INTRODUCED FOR AUDIO-FOCUSED NETWORK SETUPS

XACT Audio has launched the XACT N1 Network Switch, developed specifically for use in high-end audio systems.

Unlike many network switches adapted from standard IT equipment, XACT says the N1 has been engineered from the ground up with audio use in mind, incorporating a fully custom motherboard and dedicated power regulation components.

XACT N1 NETWORK SWITCH DESIGNED EXCLUSIVELY FOR AUDIO APPLICATIONS

The XACT N1 Network Switch uses a bespoke motherboard designed to support network audio streaming, rather than general data handling. The device includes dedicated circuits intended to manage power and signal pathways with reduced electrical noise.

INTEGRATED LINEAR POWER SUPPLY

Power is supplied by the OPTIMO N1™ linear power unit, which features three separate galvanically isolated rails. This configuration allows the core parts of the switch to operate independently from one another, potentially reducing unwanted interference within the unit.

INTERNAL CLOCKING AND TIMING ACCURACY

The switch includes an oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) master clock with its own linear power supply. OCXO clocks are often used in systems where timing stability is considered important, including certain audio and communication devices.

PORT OPTIONS FOR VARIOUS CONNECTION TYPES

The XACT N1 Network Switch offers one SFP port, four standard LAN ports, and one galvanically isolated 1 Gbit RJ45 port. The isolated port is optically separated at the data, clock, and ground levels, which may help reduce the risk of electrical interference from connected devices.

FIRMWARE ADJUSTED FOR AUDIO SYSTEM USE

The firmware running on the device has been adjusted for audio-based network performance, based on internal evaluations by XACT Audio. The company notes that the software was developed with audio-specific behaviours in mind.

The XACT N1 Network Switch is available now through selected dealers and via the JCAT online store. Pricing is listed at €6,000.
