TOTALDAC BALLOON SPEAKER LAUNCHED BY FRENCH HiFi BRAND

Totaldac Balloon Speaker hifi news

French HiFi brand Totaldac has announced the Totaldac Balloon speaker, a passive, spherical loudspeaker designed as a full-bandwidth point source.

The Totaldac Balloon Speaker is intended for both small and larger listening spaces, combining a compact form with high efficiency and wide frequency coverage.

TOTALDAC BALLOON SPEAKER

The Totaldac Balloon speaker uses a single-piece 500mm spherical cabinet to minimise edge diffraction and support a point-source presentation. The cabinet integrates a coaxial 2-way driver arrangement with a 10-inch bass unit and a 1-inch compression driver mounted in a round horn. A slim stand and moderate overall height are intended to reduce floor reflections and maintain consistent dispersion.

ACOUSTIC APPROACH

According to the Vincent of Totaldac, the Totaldac Balloon speaker offers a flat in-room response from 40Hz to 20kHz, removing the need for a subwoofer in typical setups. The design also aims for low directivity with even vertical dispersion, and the speakers can be positioned close to a rear wall. Adjustable angles in all directions allow positioning flexibility.

BUILD AND COMPONENTS

The crossover is housed in a separate enclosure and uses point-to-point wiring rather than printed circuit boards. Components include Mundorf air coils, ClarityCap capacitors and Mundorf binding posts compatible with banana plugs and spade connectors. The speaker presents an 8-ohm load and is rated at 95dB sensitivity (2.83V/1m), with a maximum power handling of 500W.

The Totaldac Balloon speaker is designed for ease of handling and shipping, with a weight of 13kg per speaker and a construction intended to withstand regular movement. The cabinet features a built-in light grey finish with a marble effect rather than painted surfaces. The design supports use in both compact rooms and larger listening spaces.
