TOPPING D900 DAC/PREAMPLIFIER LAUNCHES IN THE UK
New flagship Topping D900 digital-to-analogue converter and preamplifier introduced.
Topping has released the Topping D900 DAC/preamplifier, now available in the UK through distributor Electromod. It sits at the top of Topping’s DAC range.
TOPPING D900 DAC ARCHITECTURE
The Topping D900 uses the company’s in-house PSRM (Precision Stream Reconstruction Matrix) discrete 1-bit conversion system, rather than a commercial DAC chip or resistor ladder design. The PSRM implementation in the D900 employs 32 conversion modules, a development from the earlier D90 III Discrete model.
TOPPING D900 ANALOGUE STAGE AND POWER DESIGN
The digital-to-analogue conversion stage is supported by a voltage-reference supply designed to maintain stability and reduce noise. A CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) is used for clocking to reduce timing errors.
The analogue output stage is fully balanced and uses a new I/V (current-to-voltage) conversion circuit based on low-distortion components.
TOPPING D900 PREAMPLIFIER FUNCTION
The Topping D900 may be used as either a fixed-output DAC or as an active preamplifier. A relay-controlled analogue volume system provides 0.5dB steps, with 18 relays used across the channels. This allows the D900 to operate directly into power amplifiers or active speakers if preferred.
INPUT AND OUTPUT CONNECTIONS
Digital inputs include two USB ports (USB-B and USB-C), two optical, two coaxial, AES/EBU and I2S (LVDS). Supported playback formats include PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD up to DSD512 (native).
Bluetooth 5.1 is included, with support for LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX Low Latency, aptX, AAC and SBC.
Balanced XLR analogue outputs are provided, with one fixed-level set and one variable-level set.
The Topping D900 offers parametric EQ configuration through the Topping Tune desktop software, with up to ten bands available and user profiles storable internally.
The chassis is aluminium with a front display using the Aurora interface, offering selectable visual layouts and colour themes. A machined aluminium remote control is supplied.
