It’s just a couple of days until CAS 2019 kicks off. This will be the ninth edition of the California Audio Show, which takes place over the weekend, from this Friday, 26th of July. The show is held at the Hilton Oakland Airport, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Read on for more info including exhibitors and seminars.
We are very lucky to be able to visit many Hifi Shows, all over the world. Some of the shows are huge, like Warsaw and High End Munich, and I love these big shows, but NWAS at Cranage Hall in Cheshire is a much more personal show. That’s not to say it’s small, it has grown year on year to now have over sixty rooms, and exhibitors from all over the world, including some very big names.
Absolute Sounds is exhibiting at the North West Audio Show this weekend and their line up looks to be what you would expect from the High End Hifi Distrubutor.
It has been more than a decade since Japanese brand Kondo last exhibited in the UK, this year at NWAS, Brook Audio, in association with the distributor Select Audio, plays host to a full Kondo system in the Mackenzie suite.
Elite Audio have announced that they have partnered with High End French brand, Neodio, who are manufacturers of the Origine S2 CD Player/Converter and the Origine A2 Integrated Amplifier, which launched at Munich 2016.
McIntosh has announced the C49 Preamplifier.
The High End Society does a really cool thing at the show and give a free exhibition stand to a select few, carefully chosen, new Hifi brands. This year there were six Newcomers, all of whom were very excited about being at the show. We always make a beeline for the Newcomers stand and do a feature on them each year, we have seen several brands that started here go on to grow and exhibit in their own right at later shows, brands like PureAudioProject, Wesminster Labs and B.audio, to name just a few.
Saturday afternoon was time to pop over to the Marriott for the Hifi Deluxe Show. This runs in the afternoons/evenings on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the same time as the High End Show. With the difficulty in getting rooms at the MOC it is inevitable that a sideshow happens and you do find some interesting brands over here. There is also a shuttle bus between the two shows making it easy to get over there. After finishing the coverage of the top floor, I made my way down to the rooms that run around the outside of Atrium 4. Once again there was a host of brands and some interesting sights and sounds. Covered in this report are Kondo and Kawero, Vienna Acoustics, Gauder Akustik, Soulution, Brinkmann, HRS and Vandersteen, WOD Audio, Ypsilon, Lansche and EMM Labs, Nordost, Gobel High End and FinkTeam.
Saturday saw me flying solo at the High End Munich 2019 Hifi Show. As an intrepid Hifi Journalist, I grabbed my camera and made my way up to the top floor of the show, 4.2, to pick up from where we had left off the previous day. This top floor is always one of the best areas of the show, the brands often keep the same room year on year, so it’s easy to orientate yourself and see everything. The same brands, however, doesn’t mean the same gear every year…I was treated to some stunning rooms and some fab surprises.
