Pro-Ject Audio Systems announces the release of a new, extremely powerful, wet record cleaning machine that removes dirt and dust from your valuable vinyl.

Pro-Ject say that the new record cleaning machine is super powerful and cleans a record in 1 to 2 rotations with the best results come from 1 turn forward, 1 turn backward. It turns the record very fast (2 seconds per rotation) “about 3 times faster than other cleaning machines do”. pro-ject_record_cleaning_machine

Features

  • A robust easy-to-use metal arm with mechanically stable fixing that doesn´t use springs.
  • A new type of clamp protects the record label from the cleaning fluid and avoids damage of the label. Because the record does not touch the platter, it will not have direct contact with dirty surfaces.
  • A big container (2.5 litre) for used fluid which shows fill capacity and guarantees no spillage of used cleaning fluid. Discharging used fluid is extremely easy.
  • Newly developed vinyl cleaning concentrate ´Wash it´ for vinyl and ´Wash it 78´ for shellac records.´ Note: ´Wash it´ is optimised for cleaning standard vinyl records. It is not usable with 78 rpm shellacs. For shellacs, Pro-Ject offer the optional special fluid ´Wash it 78´.

Conventional cleaning machines consist of the rotational platter (we do not have one) and vacuum arm with a vacuum cleaner motor. The record can rotate very fast in both directions. Cleaning liquid is applied to the record and consequently spread out by brush. Then the cleaning liquid with all the dissolved impurities is evacuated by the vacuum arm. The vacuum arm is connected to an air/water separator tank. This tank protects the vacuum cleaner motor against the residue of the cleaning liquid and dry air is blown out. The vacuum arm is equipped with two brushes which are self adhesively stacked beside the groove in the vacuum arm. When vacuum suction is applied, the record attaches to these brushes.

Pro-Ject Audio Systems announce their latest release, the 2 Xperience Acryl which will replace the Xperience 2 Pack.

The 2 Xperience Acryl boasts the same clear acrylic plinth as the 2 Pack, however, it also boasts some technical tweaks that bring it into line with Pro-Ject’s latest standards.

The perimeter belt-drive concept is based on over twenty years of turntable design experience, but the motor is a newly updated design inspired by the 2 Xperience SB, which was released in 2015. The new motor is therefore driven by a purpose-engineered AC generator PCB, which in turn is powered by an efficient DC power supply for optimal rotational and speed stability.PJ-Phono-2XperienceDCAcryl

The 2 Xperience Acryl’s transparent acrylic plinth is acoustically inert, the thick black precision-balanced platter is also resonant-free, and topped with melted vinyl records for the ideal turntable mat. The three aluminium coned feet are TPE-damped for a further reduction of unwanted resonances.

The 2 Xperience Acryl is fitted as standard with the 9cc Evolution carbon fibre tonearm. The tonearm is then finished with the Ortofon 2M Silver moving- magnet cartridge, which boasts silver voice coils.

The package is also neatly finished with a screw-on record clamp and a sturdy dust cover.

SRP £950.00

In further news Pro-Ject announced the2 Xperience SB S-Shape that takes all the same innovations and improvements of the 2 Xperience SB design, but utilises a brand new S-Shape tonearm to give vinyl enthusiasts a more versatile record player.PJ-Phono-2XperienceSBSShape-piano (1)

The S-Shape tonearm is made of a special alloy of aluminium with very high internal damping properties, for reduced resonance. The bearing design allows for pin- point mounting of the premium vertical race bearings, while the horizontal ball bearings are rigidly mounted yet easily adjustable. The rotational anti-skate mechanism is inspired by the anti-skate system used on the flagship Signature 12 tonearm.

One of the principle benefits of the new tonearm is found in the high-quality detachable headshell.

The 2 Xperience SB turntable has a large plinth, high-quality main bearing and thick, vinyl-topped sandwich platter. The new precision motor is driven by an efficient DC power supply and regulated by a built-in electronic speed changer offering easy switching between 331/3 and 45RPM, but it also acts as an AC generator for the motor to ensure a clean and stable power signal.

An acrylic dust cover, silver screw-on record clamp and expertly engineered coned feet finish off the turntable.

Pro-Ject Audio Systems have completely  renovated their popular RPM series of turntables throughout the course of 2015. The final adjustment to the range has now been confirmed, in the form of the brand new RPM 5 Carbon.

Designed to replace the award-winning RPM 5, the RPM 5 Carbon takes a technological, audible and aesthetic leap on from the standard set by its predecessor.PJ-Phono-RPM5Carbon-Red

The plinth and  decoupled-motor design has been chosen due to the performance benefits discovered with the range-topping RPM 9 Carbon and RPM 10 Carbon. The low-resonance plinth is finished with a premium quality gloss and topped with carbon fibre. The chassis contains a new inverted platter bearing with ceramic ball for minimal rumble. The whole plinth sits on top of three adjustable spiked feet to further keep resonance away from the record  surface.

The thick acrylic platter is acoustically inert, to ensure the purest playback of any vinyl record. The platter is driven by a fully-detached 15V AC motor, to offer a smooth and consistent rotation thanks to the, DC-driven AC generator built into the motor housing.

The RPM 5 Carbon is supplied with the 9CC Evolution tonearm pre-installed. The 9CC Evolution boasts a 9” one-piece carbon fibre tube and inverted bearing design. The heavyweight assembly and TPE-damped counterweights ensure unwanted resonances are swiftly drawn away from the signal wires. Pro-Ject Audio System’s Box Design range was created to satisfy the growing trend towards smaller high-performance audio products. In 2013 My Audiophile Integrated Amplifier, or MaiA that measured just 206 x 200 x 36mm (W x D x H) was launched. Now, at the end of 2015, Pro-Ject has introduced a bigger sibling to MaiA for their DS range. PJ-BD-MaiADS-black

MaiA DS provides everything the modern listener needs… Three analogue inputs, three digital inputs, a phono stage, USB streaming and Bluetooth streaming. In addition there are multiple output options including a headphone socket. MaiA DS is a pre-amplifier, an integrated amplifier, a DAC, a headphone amp and a phono stage – all in one box.

Onboard you get a 60W per-channel Class D output stage and the PCM1796 Delta-Sigma DAC chip with 24bit / 192kHz high-resolution audio handling from Texas Instruments. The USB input uses XMOS asynchronous streaming technology and the input can also handle up to DSD256 playback (DoP). The 4th generation Bluetooth input is aptX® enabled to ensure the highest quality wireless streaming from a smart device. There’s a switchable MM/MC phono stage built into the amplifier which is based on Pro-Ject’s Phono Box technology. PJ-BD-MaiADS-back

With the free Box Control Android application, you can gain complete control of the MaiA DS and any other Infra Red (IR) remote-controlled device in your system.* Heinz Lichtenegger, CEO of Pro-Ject Audio Systems, has said:

“We see that people like to control music with an app. The industry offers many streamers where you can control your music content very conveniently. But for your hi-fi amp, CD player or TV, you’ll often have multiple remotes or a very expensive control system. With our unique Box Control app and the MaiA DS it is possible to control standard analogue IR products without the need of a Wi-Fi connection!”

Box Control takes a different approach to other remote systems; so only core controls are accessible through the app, and each device has its own easy-to-understand screen – rather than a myriad of complicated options squashed into one screen.

SRP £699.00

The MaiA DS is available in the UK now in Black or Silver.

Pro-Ject RPM 9 Carbon

The philosophy of the RPM series of turntables from Pro-Ject Audio Systems is to combine great sound with striking designs, and the latest release is as true to this belief as any other model. The RPM 9 Carbon has been introduced in line with the new range-topping RPM 10 Carbon (see below) to satisfy the needs of audio enthusiasts who want a record player that stands apart.

Based on the same “teardrop” chassis as its predecessor, the RPM 9.2 Evolution, but boasts similar improvements to the range’s flagship. PJ-Phono-RPM9Carbon

The plinth design has been chosen due to its improved resonance characteristics. The CNC- machined MDF structure is packed with resin- coated steel pellets to form a high-mass  sandwich construction that provides a firm base for the turntable. The whole plinth is then put through a complex heat treatment process and coated in a carbon fibre surface to reduce resonance levels as low as possible. The main turntable structure is then effectively decoupled from its support thanks to the plinth’s magnetic feet.

The RPM 9 Carbon boasts a new polished aluminium platter, inspired by the Xtension 9 SuperPack record player. The platter is internally lined with TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) damping material and topped with vinyl. The whole platter sits on top of an inverted ceramic main bearing.

As with all models in the RPM series, the RPM 9 Carbon uses a perimeter belt drive mechanism. The motor has an automatic speed change switch built into the top panel for easy changing between 33 and 45rpm. The motor also benefits from a built-in AC power generator PCB, to deliver a clean mains supply to the motor. The motor is completely decoupled from the main chassis and sits on top of a custom-designed steel base for improved stability.

The RPM 9 Carbon is supplied with the 9CC Evolution Tonearm pre-installed. The 9” tonearm boasts a conical carbon fibre tube and inverted bearing design. For improved signal transmission, the tonearm is supplied  with a 5-Pin to RCA Connect-IT CC cable.

The RPM 9 Carbon is supplied with a record puck in the box.

SRP £1,500.00

The RPM 9 Carbon will be available in the UK from November 2015.

UK customers can have an Ortofon Quintet Black cartridge installed for an extra £400.00*

Pro-Ject RPM 10 Carbon

Pro-Ject are now addressing the high-end sector with the introduction of a new range-topper; the RPM 10 Carbon.

Though the minimalist plinth design looks visually impressive, through extensive testing it’s also proved to show optimal resonance characteristics, compared to many traditional chassis designs. To further improve its performance, the plinth also employs “high mass” principles with resin-coated steel pellets packed inside the CNC-machined MDF structure. The whole plinth is then subjected  to a complex heat treatment and carbon fibre surface coating to ensure minimal resonance travels through the turntable. The plinth is finished with magnetic feet.PJ-Phono-RPM10Carbon

The RPM 10 Carbon’s platter is the same as that found on the Xtension 10 record player. The polished aluminium exterior is internally lined with TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) damping material  and topped with vinyl. The whole platter sits on top of a stainless steel spindle with inverted ceramic main bearing.

The RPM 10 Carbon’s perimeter drive belt mechanism is driven by a completely decoupled heavyweight motor. The motor sits on top of a custom-designed steel base for improved stability. Electronic speed- change between 33 and 45rpm is built into the motor, which also employs its own AC power generator PCB, for a clean mains supply and reduced speed variance.

The 10CC Evolution Tonearm is pre-installed on the RPM 10 Carbon which boasts a conical carbon fibre tube and inverted bearing design. The high-quality internal wiring and selection of TPE-damped counterweights also makes the tonearm suitable for use with almost any high-end pick-up cartridge. For improved signal transmission, the tonearm is supplied with a 5-Pin to RCA Connect-IT CC cable.

The RPM 10 Carbon is supplied as standard with the brand new Ground-IT Carbon high-mass platform and a high-quality record puck. An acrylic dustcover is available separately in the Cover-IT range.

SRP £2,300.00

The RPM 10 Carbon will be available in the UK from November 2015.

UK customers can have an Ortofon Cadenza Black cartridge installed for an extra £1,000.00*

Pro-Ject are set to take their own traditional design, and completely revolutionise it to accommodate the ever-growing number of vinyl listeners.Project_digital_turntable

The Essential II DIGITAL aims to be the first hi-fi specified turntable that can be connected – out-of- the-box – to any modern home entertainment system. The brand new internal phono stage gives customers the option between an analogue Line Level output, or a 24-bit/96kHz digital Optical output.

The analogue portion of the output stage uses a phono stage based upon Pro-Ject’s Phono Box design. The Line output allows for easy connection to any Line-Level (Auxiliary) input. The 24-bit/96kHz Optical output uses a high-performance Analogue-Digital Converter (ADC) to send a clean, uninterrupted signal to your digital hub. So whether you currently listen to music through a soundbar, an AV receiver, a DAC, a TV, a digital pre-amplifier or a multi- room system with external input options – the Essential II DIGITAL should fit right in.

The Essential II DIGITAL has a high-gloss paint finishe, and the “Digital” logo emblazoned on the plinth. It also boasts all the pre-existing features that have made the Essential II an international award winner. The 8.6” aluminium tonearm, heavy MDF platter and low-voltage motor with perimeter belt drive system make a winning combination; while the Ortofon OM5E is the perfect cartridge to get instant gratification from your record collection. The turntable is available in black or white finish, and is supplied with a dust-cover in the box.

With the ever-growing success of the vinyl format, Pro-Ject aim to produce a range of products that give any customer the tools they need to integrate a high-quality turntable into their listening system. The Essential II DIGITAL expands the potential for digital audio fans to revisit the fabled black wax, without fundamentally changing their current system.

SRP £309.00

The Pro-Ject Essential II DIGITAL will be available in the UK from June 2015.

Pro-Ject’s RPM 1 Genie turntable was an instant hit around the world when it was first revealed over five years ago. Today, RPM_Genie8carbonHenley Designs Ltd. and Pro-Ject Audio Systems are delighted to announce the release of the fourth incarnation of this turntable, the RPM 1 Carbon.

The RPM 1 Carbon utilises a number of premium technologies and principles. The low resonance chassis houses a newly designed inverted platter bearing with ceramic ball for reduced rumble. While the decoupled 15V AC motor is driven using an ultra-precision AC generator with DC power supply for enhanced speed stability and ultimate reliability. The stand-out component though is the brand-new S-Shaped carbon fibre tonearm.

With an effective length of 8.6”, this tonearm is made from carbon fibre, but boasts an aluminium resin core – effectively creating an arm that is super-light but also extremely solid. Made by a three step process that involves heat treatment and 100 bars of pressure, the RPM 1 Carbon’s tonearm is not only light and rigid, but the damping properties of the materials are maximised to a point that unwanted resonances are effectively eliminated says the company’s press release. The arm is finished off with a counterweight that itself has a ring of TPE damping at its fixing point, and is supplied with a 2M Red cartridge pre-fitted. The new magnetic anti-skate system makes set-up even simpler than ever before.

Available in three gloss finishes (Black, Red and White); this new turntable boasts the perfect combination of sound performance, modern technology, visual appeal and affordability.

Henley Designs, who distribute Pro-Ject in the UK, contacted the Hifi Pig office to tell us all about Stereo Box Phonothe new Stereo Box Phono from Pro-Ject.
The Stereo Box Phono from Box Design by Pro-Ject Audio Systems combines an integrated amplifier design with one of the best selling hi-fi phono stages of recent years to create a compact solution for vinyl fans on a budget.

The Stereo Box Phono has three analogue line inputs alongside one MM-only phono stage inspired by Pro-Ject’s well known Phono Box design. The new Stereo Box Phono adheres to Pro-Ject’s ongoing philosophy that “less is more” and certainly looks the part. However, its size and construction is also complementary to their wider Box Design S range, so if you can add digital inputs or add a CD player in the future.

The amplifier section is based on the Stereo Box S making the power output 30W (4Ω) per channel, and so capable of driving a decent pair of bookshelf speakers. The power-stage has the ability to drive 2Ω loads which should be good for system matching. A dual-mono design principle is employed inside, and the “low-noise pure audio circuitry and other premium components used make the Stereo Box Phono punch well above its diminutive price-point” says the company’s press release.

The Stereo Box Phono is obviously designed to be a perfect partner for Pro-Ject’s affordable turntable models. Usability is said to be simple and intuitive, but there’s also an included compact IR remote control.

The Stereo Box Phono is available with Black or Silver faceplates.

Price will be £199.95

“The USB Box S+ from Box Design by Pro-Ject Audio Systems brings the most usbboxs=advanced technologies surrounding asynchronous USB data transfer together into a simple-to-use Digital/Analogue Converter; turning computers into a serious hi-fi source” says the press release.  And this little box of tricks certainly seems to be continuing the Pro-Ject philosophy of keeping prices down and spec’ up!

The USB Box S+ uses an XMOS chipset to handle asynchronous USB streaming up to 32-bit/384kHz, with the lowest possible levels of jitter. The sample-rate of a playing file is displayed on the front panel, but in the device all digital streams are up-sampled to a higher level for optimal conversion without any loss (44.1, 88.2 & 176.4 sample rates are up-sampled to 352.8kHz; 48, 96 and 192kHz sample rates are up-sampled to 384kHz).

The compact device utilises a single PCM5102A chip from Burr-Brown and also offers a 2.1V RMS output meaning the audio signal path after the chip is clear of unnecessary extra capacitors, which can limit the overall sound quality. The two selectable Filter settings allow users to tailor the sound to suit by switching between “Brick Wall” FIR (Finite Impulse Response) and “Apodizing” IIR (Infinite Impulse Response) filters.

The USB Box S+ matches the size and aesthetic of other models in the Box Design ‘S’ range and is simple to set up and use the company say being compatible with Windows, Apple and Linux systems

Available from June in the UK the USB Box Plus will cost £169.

The Pro-Ject Xpression Carbon UKX is an entry level turntable costing just £575 and including an PROJECTUKXarm and cartridge. At this kind of price point we really wanted to hear what it could do and so Peter gave it a review for Hifi Pig and loved it. Having given the turntable a score of more than 8.5/10 the turntable went off to a second reviewer to see if it merited an Outstanding Product award.

Over time, and as budgets allow, I can also see that the UKX could provide considerable opportunities for tweaking.  My first stop would be the cartridge. As would be expected, while good enough for a sub £100 piece, the 2M is very much the limiting factor in this package. If I owned the UKX, I would hesitate before trading up either ‘table or arm until I had tried a better cartridge, possibly even an MC; keeping to the Ortofon theme, I see no reason why any of the new Quintet series would not partner happily with the excellent arm, but any medium mass cartridge might be worth a spin”

and from the second review

Next on the turntable was the Violin Concerto Number 2 on the Decca label, SXL 6802, Conduced by George Solti with Kyung-Wha Chung on the violin. The transcription had a rich bass end but the lower treble harshness from the transducer did it no favours! Although it did interfere with the performance, I did listen to the disc from end to end.”

Here you can read both the reviews in full of the Pro-Ject Xpression Carbon UKX Turntable

Henley Designs, exclusive UK distributors for Pro-Ject Audio Systems, are releasing a UK exclusive Xpressiopn_UKXversion of this popular Pro-Ject Carbon turntable, in the form of the 1 Xpression Carbon UKX.

The 1 Xpression Carbon UKX advances on the current model with an acrylic platter upgrade that is said to help elevate the performance of the turntable to new heights. The use of an acrylic platter negates the need for any form of mat, though the UKX continues to include felt and cork mat options to suit a wider variety of listening rooms and sound preferences.

The 1 Xpression Carbon UKX keeps all the features from the original turntable, including the one-piece carbon fibre tonearm with an over-sized assembly around the gimble bearing that draws all vibrations away from the arm tube. There’s even a pre-fitted Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge.

All 1 Xpression Carbon UKX tonearm and main bearings are hand-adjusted and tweaked by Pro-Ject’s workforce to offer the best possible performance. The new motor decoupling blobs are also hand-adjusted to tune out any motor noise that could be generated in use.

The 1 Xpression Carbon UKX is available from March 2014 at a suggested retail price £575.

Henley Designs contacted us to tell us about a new release from Box Design by Pro-Ject Audio Systems – The Head Head_Box_DS_(Silver)Box DS.

Designed with headphone audiophiles in mind, the Head Box DS is essentially a multi-source headphone amplifier. However, where it advances on from its predecessor, the Head Box S/E, is with the inclusion of a DAC chip from Cirrus Logic.

The built-in CS4344 DAC chip allows for 24-bit / 192kHz digital conversion over asynchronous USB, as well as conversion of more traditional digital sources via the Coaxial and Optical inputs. There is also an analogue input, for connecting a turntable or similar analogue source.

As well as working as a headphone amplifier, the Head Box DS can also act as a DAC for a full-sized speaker-based system utilizing the analogue output on the rear of the unit.

The Head Box DS is available now in Black or Silver finish for £299.00

As well as the Head Box DS they also wanted to tell us about the Essential 2 turntable from Pro-Ject. Essential_2_(Red)

The Essential 2 has many of the same aesthetic characteristics as the original model, with a silicone perimeter belt driving a 12” MDF platter. However, the tonearm has been improved from the previous ‘uni-pivot’ design to that of a more traditional 8.6” aluminium design, with sapphire bearings in a gimbal-style assembly, that has previously been found on higher priced Pro-Ject turntables. At the end of the arm is a pre-installed Ortofon OM 5E.

The Essential 2 also has a brand new synchronous motor system,  and stainless steel platter bearing that runs in a bronze bushing with Teflon lining.

The Essential 2 is available in the UK from July 2013 for £199. The turntable is also available in red or white matte finishes for an extra £10.
