JAVA HIFI EXPANDS RANGE WITH SIX NEW AMPLIFIERS AND UPGRADED R2R DAC
New Zealand based JAVA HiFi has introduced six new amplifier models and announced a major upgrade across its integrated amplifier range.
The update includes a new high-performance R2R ladder DAC, replacing the previous Burr-Brown-based converter. The company says this change brings greater precision and refinement to digital playback.
JAVA CARBON SERIES EXTENDED
Following the release of the CARBON edition integrated amplifiers launched in early 2024, JAVA HiFi has now expanded the CARBON finish to its pre-amplifiers and power amplifiers. The design features 9mm carbon fibre casework, chosen for its vibration damping and resistance to radio frequency and electromagnetic interference.
DESIGN AND COMPONENT UPGRADES
The new JAVA CARBON pre-amplifiers and power amplifiers incorporate a series of component upgrades. These include ETI Research Silver RCA connectors and Kryo speaker binding posts, the latter featured on both GaN FET power amplifier models. The units also sit on IsoAcoustics Gaia IV feet, designed to isolate internal circuitry and reduce vibration transfer.
NEW JAVA HIFI INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER MODELS
Alongside the CARBON series expansion, JAVA HiFi has introduced new integrated amplifier options. The JAVA Single Shot 400 delivers 400W per channel into 8 ohms—double the output of the existing Single Shot model. Meanwhile, the JAVA Double Shot 200 retains the fully balanced topology of the Double Shot integrated amplifier but outputs 200W per channel at a lower price point.
According to JAVA HiFi Founder and CEO Martin Bell, these new additions fill a key gap in the company’s product line-up, offering listeners a wider range of power and configuration choices.
UPGRADED R2R LADDER DAC INTRODUCED
A major highlight across the refreshed integrated amplifier range is the new R2R ladder DAC. Built around dual AD1865 chips from Analog Devices, the DAC supports file playback up to 768kHz. The non-oversampling 18-bit design is selected for its natural and detailed sound presentation.
Each DAC stage is powered by its own linear regulator, with the Double Shot models featuring a fully balanced configuration, one DAC board per channel, to reduce cross-talk and enhance channel separation.
IMPROVED LINEARITY AND PERFORMANCE
The R2R DAC introduces native MSB adjustment on the AD1865 chips, which fine-tunes the most significant bit for better linearity around the zero-crossing point. Martin of JAVA tells us this engineering detail helps to reduce distortion and deliver smoother transitions, contributing to an overall cleaner and more natural sound character.
