LINN KLIMAX SOLO 500 MONO AMPLIFIER REINVENTS A CLASSIC
Linn has unveiled the Linn Klimax Solo 500, a fully re-engineered mono amplifier that updates the long-running Klimax Solo with significant performance and efficiency improvements all while maintaining a compact footprint.
This next-generation amplifier is designed to be a seamless drop-in replacement for existing Linn or third-party power amplification, particularly well-suited to active systems or space-conscious installations.
LINN KLIMAX SOLO 500
The Linn Klimax Solo 500 incorporates Linn’s proprietary Adaptive Bias Control technology, first seen in the 360 Exakt Integrated loudspeakers and later in the Klimax Solo 800. This innovation ensures the amplifier’s bias current is continuously adjusted in real time via a powerful FPGA processor, enabling optimal performance under all operating conditions. By dynamically managing the bias across all eight output transistors, the amplifier maintains consistent sound quality across its lifespan, irrespective of temperature, volume, or programme material.
KLIMAX SOLO 500 EMPLOYS ADVANCED HYBRID COOLING MATRIX
To maintain high efficiency and quiet operation, the Klimax Solo 500 utilises a hybrid cooling matrix. During standard playback, heat is passively dissipated via a thermally optimised sub-chassis with machined fins and top-surface gills. Under demanding conditions, the amplifier engages two internal fans that quietly boost airflow through the thermal channels, managed by real-time FPGA-based monitoring of internal temperature and audio signal.
This smart thermal design is supported by Linn’s Utopik power supply with auto-voltage rails, which tailors energy delivery to match the signal load, reducing waste heat and overall power consumption.
PRECISION MACHINED CASEWORK DEFINES THE LINN KLIMAX SOLO 500 DESIGN
The Klimax Solo 500 is housed in a minimalist enclosure crafted from three precision-machined aluminium sections: baseplate, enclosure, and rear panel. Its exterior references Linn’s design language, including a modernised version of the company’s distinctive “smile” on the fascia and a softly glowing Linn badge inset into a radial-grooved chrome ring.
Subtle venting, discreet status lighting, and vibration-isolating steel feet with rubber O-rings combine functionality with a visually striking and tactile finish.
