LINN LAUNCHES KLIMAX RADIKAL AND KEEL SE UPGRADES FOR SONDEK LP12

Linn Klimax Radikal And Linn Keel SE Upgrades For Linn Sondek LP12 hifi news

Linn has announced two new upgrades for the Linn Sondek LP12 turntable: the Linn Klimax Radikal power supply and motor control unit, and the Linn Keel SE sub-chassis and armboard assembly.

Both have been developed to refine performance in areas of power management, mechanical stability, and vibration control.

LINN KLIMAX RADIKAL POWER SUPPLY AND MOTOR CONTROL

The Klimax Radikal combines a digitally controlled motor system with a new version of Linn’s Utopik power supply. The design aims to provide precise and stable rotational speed, maintaining consistent playback at 33⅓rpm. The Utopik supply has separate voltage rails for the motor and internal Urika phono stages, ensuring each receives independent, self-regulated power.

SEPARATE POWER MANAGEMENT

This separation of power delivery is intended to prevent interaction between circuits, helping maintain stable performance under varying electrical loads. The Utopik power supply is housed in a self-contained aluminium enclosure that provides electrical isolation from the main control circuitry.

MECHANICAL DESIGN AND BUILD

The chassis of the Klimax Radikal is machined from three solid aluminium sections and weighs around 14kg. It is supported by stainless-steel feet with integrated rubber damping rings to help reduce the effect of external vibration. The overall construction is focused on rigidity and mechanical isolation.

LINN KEEL SE SUB-CHASSIS AND ARMBOARD

The Keel SE replaces the company’s previous top-tier sub-chassis design. Using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and in-house machining, Linn has modified the structure to increase stiffness and optimise resonance behaviour. A new bracing pattern has been introduced on the underside, which Linn states delivers around three times the stiffness of earlier designs.

STRUCTURAL AND RESONANT IMPROVEMENTS

According to Linn, the increased rigidity raises the frequency of any resonances and lowers their amplitude, with the goal of reducing unwanted vibration. The new structure is also intended to dissipate energy more effectively, limiting its influence on the signal generated by the cartridge.

REINFORCED CONNECTION BETWEEN BEARING AND TONEARM

Attention has been given to the area linking the Karousel bearing mount and the tonearm collar, strengthening this path to reduce any small movements that could affect tracking geometry. Greater stiffness in this section helps maintain consistent alignment between tonearm and platter during playback.

REFINED MASS DISTRIBUTION

Material has been removed from specific sections beneath the armboard to balance the centre of mass on the suspension system. This is designed to improve weight distribution and reduce inertia, supporting the LP12’s acoustic isolation and stability.

LINN KLIMAX RADIKAL AND LINN KEEL SE AVAILABILITY AND PRICING

The Linn Klimax Radikal and Keel SE upgrades are available to order now through Linn dealers.

Pricing (UK, including VAT): Klimax Radikal £11,500; Keel SE £4,250.
