LEAK TruStream Network Audio Player hifi news

LEAK has announced the LEAK TruStream network audio player, the company’s first dedicated music streamer since the brand’s return to the market in 2020.

The LEAK TruStream Network Audio Player expands LEAK’s current range of electronics, which includes the Stereo 130 and Stereo 230 integrated amplifiers and the CDT CD transport. The new streamer combines modern digital streaming functionality with the company’s familiar retro-inspired design language.

LEAK TRUSTREAM NETWORK AUDIO PLAYER

The LEAK TruStream network audio player is housed in a walnut wood-veneered cabinet over an aluminium chassis, reflecting the mid-century styling used across the brand’s current product line. Designed as a digital source component, it can be connected to integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers, power amplifiers or active speakers. It can also function as a standalone headphone streaming system thanks to its built-in headphone amplifier.

Connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet for network streaming, alongside USB-C for PC or Mac connection. Two USB-A ports allow connection of USB storage devices and can also be used as digital outputs to an external DAC. Additional outputs include optical and coaxial S/PDIF, balanced XLR and single-ended RCA analogue connections, plus a 6.35mm headphone output.

STREAMING PLATFORM DEVELOPED WITH SILENT ANGEL

At the core of the LEAK TruStream network audio player is a customised streaming platform developed in collaboration with Silent Angel. The system uses ARM Cortex-A72 and Cortex-A53 multi-core processors and operates through a dedicated mobile app for iOS and Android devices.

The streamer supports several integrated services including Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect and TuneIn internet radio. Apple AirPlay 2 is also supported, and the device is fully UPnP/DLNA compatible, allowing playback from network storage such as NAS drives. The unit is certified Roon Ready and supports the RAAT protocol for use within Roon music management systems.

DAC AND AUDIO ARCHITECTURE

The LEAK TruStream network audio player incorporates an ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M 32-bit DAC. LEAK states that the DAC stage is paired with proprietary clock and power supply circuitry, as well as a Class A post-DAC active filter stage designed to optimise signal-to-noise performance and dynamic range.

Power supply design includes a low-noise toroidal transformer supplied by Noratel and separate regulated power supplies for key stages including the DAC, microcontroller and XMOS chip. The analogue output stage uses a balanced topology intended to minimise noise and distortion in the signal path.

HI-RES FORMAT SUPPORT

High-resolution audio support on the LEAK TruStream network audio player includes PCM playback up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD up to DSD512 (22.5MHz). The streamer supports a wide range of audio formats including FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, APE and CUE, along with DSF and DIFF for native DSD playback.

Lossy formats including MP3, WMA, AAC and OGG are also supported. According to the specifications listed in the press material, the unit measures 330 x 118 x 278mm and weighs 6.5kg.

LEAK TRUSTREAM NETWORK AUDIO PLAYER PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

The LEAK TruStream network audio player is scheduled to be available from April with a retail price of £999.
