Conrad-Johnson ART108A Mono-Block Power Amplifier

CONRAD-JOHNSON ART108A MONO-BLOCK AMPLIFIER ANNOUNCED

Conrad-Johnson begins the new year of 2022 with a new addition to their range of flagship ART amplifiers, the Conrad-Johnson ART108A mono-block power amplifier.

The Conrad-Johnson ART108A is a Class-A power amplifier capable of a 160 Watts power output into 4 Ohm loads (optionally available configured for 8 or 16 Ohm loads).

KT88 VALVES

The power is developed by four pairs of KT88 output valves, connected for Triode operation. Independent regulated power supplies are provided for the output stage as well as for input amplifier and inverter stages.

Lew Johnson from the American brand told us: “Our approach to outstanding musicality is straightforward: best results come from simple circuits executed with quality parts”.

The ART108A has an inherently simple circuit of just three triode stages, albeit with composite triodes (consisting of paralleled triodes) in each of the stages. The push-pull output stage uses four pairs of KT88s biased for Class A operation.

QUALITY COMPONENTS

Johnson told us that the highest quality parts are used throughout the circuits. The custom mains transformer has plenty of headroom so as not to constrain the amplifier on demanding passages. The output transformer is a proprietary custom-designed Translinear wide-band transformer. As with all of the Conrad-Johnson ART products, the ART108A features extensive use of CJD Teflon capacitors and ultra high-performance metal foil resistors. Premium input/output connectors and internal wiring are also used.

CONRAD-JOHNSON ART108A MONO-BLOCK PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

The Conrad-Johnson ART108A mono-blocks are priced at $48,000 per pair. Deliveries are expected to begin by the end of January.

HiFi Pig Says: Yes, these amps have a high price tag, but they look beautifully made and deserving of their flagship status. One to make the valve fans drool!
