It’s always fun to visit a new-to-us Hifi Show and we had been thinking about going to XFi, in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, for the last two or three years, but unfortunately, it clashed with Festival of Sound in London. This year, however, we planned to get there for one day but then, as FOS was canceled, we thought “why not?” and decided to become Media Partners with the Dutch show and visit for the whole weekend. We were very happy that we did.

The excitement at Hifi Pig Towers, as we prepared to head to Denver, Colorado for our first USA Hifi Show, had reached fever pitch. It was a bit of a step into the unknown, even though we know many of the exhibitors and brands very well from other international shows, it was thrilling to be venturing onto new ground and meeting the Americans on their own turf.
The Friday of Rocky Mountain Audio Fest was to be the first day proper with real and paying punters turning up in very encouraging numbers. The general feedback from exhibitors seemed to be that they were happy with both the quantity and the quality of visitors. I suppose one of the features of the current venue is that it is a destination and as such people have to make a considerable effort to get there, and perhaps because of this are more likely to be more “keen” and in a buying mood. We arrived at the show bright and early after an evening spent with the lovely Cardas family at their event in SoBo, Denver – thanks for a lovely evening, guys and thanks for the socks.

Phil Wannell has been in the industry for some time and is a well-known face at Hifi shows and events throughout the UK. Recently he has decided to take the leap into self-employment and has founded Audio Concierge, a bespoke service offering portable audio and headfi products to a discerning clientele.
Angela Cardas is Chief Awesome Officer (yep, you read that right) at Oregon (US) based Cardas Audio. Many will know the company for their cables but they also produce turntable accessories and much more besides. Hifi Pig has a chat with the awesome Angela about the company’s history, what it’s like to be a woman in the Hifi industry and much more.

Harman are a big company in terms of the brands they comprise of – Mark Levinson, Revel, JBL Synthesis, Arcam and Lexicon. All are leaders in their field of high end audio and recently Samsung came along and acquired Harman as a luxury audio off shoot for their electronics empire.

No matter how hard you try, how many (many, many) kilometres you walk and how long you spend at the show, there does come a time where you have to accept you won’t see every single thing. But at Hifi Pig, we aim to bring our readers the most comprehensive coverage of High End Munich so on Sunday we were still enjoying snoofling around the rooms and halls for you! As we near the end of Hifi Pig’s coverage of Munich High End 2019 I can’t help think what a great show Munich really is and feel privileged that we have been covering the show at Hifi Pig for 7 years. The show is as much about the people as it is about the Hifi and Munich is a great place to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.
