Auden X Moorgate Sheffield Audio Show
JOIN OSCAR AND KELLY AS THEY EXPLORE THE AUDEN X MOORGATE SHEFFIELD AUDIO SHOW
UK distributor Auden Distribution and Sheffield HiFi shop Moorgate Acoustics held a weekend audio show over the 17th and 18th October, at the Mercure hotel in Sheffield, with three rooms and four systems.
Let’s take a look at what each system had to offer in our coverage of this lovely, relaxed event.
AUDEN X MOORGATE SHEFFIELD AUDIO SHOW

SYSTEM 4
This room housed a system consisting of a Hegel H600 running into their D50 DAC via the DAC loop feature, into a pair of Egglestonworks Andra V speakers. They were using Audiomica cables throughout, along with MusicWorks isolation kit, and with some acoustic guitar music they were snappy, with impressive rhythm and timing, along with detail aplenty. The Hegel amp has impressive grip over the drivers in these speakers, allowing them to really shine, without ever losing track of what was going on in the mix.
The next track had more drive to it, The Shape of Dust by Veloscuro, and the Andra V dig deep into the sub-bass with ease, pressurising the room, whilst delivering clean vocals and accurate sounding strings. These speakers seem to handle this music with ease, flowing with ease, and delivering it with scale and impact, whilst revealing plenty of nuances.

SYSTEM 2 & 3
In this room you had two systems, one was on display when we went in which had a Michell TechnoDec running into a Hegel H150 amp, with a Hegel CD player, running into Amphion Argon 1 speakers and Audiomica cabling throughout.
The system that was playing had a Rega Naia turntable, Hegel A200 amplifier, EgglestonWorks Emma Evolution speakers, Audiomica cabling and MusicWorks mains cables. They played some country music which was quite a blast, it was instrumental yet the timing was spot on and everything occupied its own space. Next up, we had some Elton John which was rather impressive on this system. This was the first time the Hegel A200 has been shown at a show in the UK, and it was doing a brilliant job driving these speakers – this room had a pleasant warmth to the sound, with punchy and impactful lows. Elton’s voice cuts through with authority here, yet it’s never pushed forward in the mix. The strings have air, and presence, without sounding hard edged or sharp. This was a great system to sit back and relax to.
We came back to this room, and they were playing the smaller system, but with Amphion Argon 3X speakers – playing teardrop by Massive Attack. Superb sound from such small speakers, and a great little setup.
SYSTEM 1
Big EgglestonWorks Viginti speakers in here, paired with a pair of Hegel H30A power amps, P30A pre-amp, D50 DAC, Viking CD Player, Innuos ZENith Next-Gen streaming server, Audiomica cables, and MusicWorks mains block. This system has an incredibly vivid, and engaging sound, each kick hit with impact and body, along with impressive control. The detail here is impressive, percussion hits hard and fast, they are super snappy yet just steer clear of being bright. The treble is well presented yet not harsh, these easily filled the room with big sound that was fun and punchy, whilst retaining a high level of detail retrieval and insight.
Moorgate and Auden have done a superb job at creating excellent, curated systems, that all sounded brilliant at this show.
A huge thank you to Bill Leigh of Auden and all involved. This might be a small show, but it was well worth a visit to listen to some excellent setups.
