FiiO DM11 Adds Replaceable Batteries To A Portable CD Player
FiiO has announced the DM11, an affordable portable CD player with wired and Bluetooth listening, USB-C audio and batteries that owners can replace.
The new circular player is due to join FiiO’s existing DM13 and DM15 models as the least expensive option in the range. It is aimed at listeners who want to use a CD collection away from a full-size HiFi system without giving up modern headphone and speaker connections.

A Modern Portable CD Player
The DM11 uses a circular body that is only slightly larger than a compact disc. FiiO says it weighs 263.5g and is 25mm thick, making it noticeably lighter than the company’s DM13 and DM15 players. The aluminium-alloy case has a tempered-glass lid, allowing the spinning disc to remain visible.
It can be used as a self-contained personal music system: insert a disc, connect headphones and start listening. The 3.5mm socket works with conventional wired headphones, while the 4.4mm balanced output is intended for headphones or earphones fitted with a matching balanced cable.
Replaceable Batteries And Skip Protection
Instead of sealing a custom battery permanently inside the player, FiiO has specified two rechargeable 14500 lithium-ion cells. Each is rated at 3.7V and 1,000mAh. Opening a panel underneath the DM11 allows the cells to be replaced when they eventually wear out, which could extend the useful life of the player.
Electronic Skip Protection, normally shortened to ESP, stores a small section of music in memory. If a knock briefly interrupts the laser reading the disc, playback can continue from that memory rather than stopping immediately. A switch underneath the player turns the feature on or off.
Wired Wireless And Digital Connections
Bluetooth 5.4 transmission allows CD sound to be sent to compatible wireless headphones or speakers. Bluetooth compresses the audio signal, so listeners who want the most direct connection can use the wired headphone outputs instead.
A USB-C connection lets the DM11 work as a DAC for a computer or another compatible digital source. A DAC, or digital-to-analogue converter, turns digital music data into the analogue signal needed by headphones. Optical and coaxial digital output are also available through a 3.5mm socket, allowing the player to send CD audio to an external DAC or a larger HiFi system.
CD Ripping And Sound Controls
The USB-C port can copy tracks from a CD to a connected USB flash drive. This is known as ripping and can make it easier to move music from an existing disc collection onto another compatible player. Full details of the recording format and file options have not yet been confirmed.
Seven equaliser presets are planned for pop, jazz, rock, hip-hop, dance, classical and retro listening. The equaliser can also be switched off. Inside, FiiO lists two Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chips and SGM8262 amplifier components, with up to 500mW into 32 ohms from the balanced output.
Price And Availability
FiiO says the DM11 is planned for release on 11 November in sky blue, black and orange. Its price is expected to be no more than 800 yuan, roughly US$119 at the time of the announcement. UK and European prices, final specifications and local availability have not yet been confirmed.
