DALI BASIK SUB COMPACT ACTIVE SUBWOOFER ANNOUNCED
Danish HiFi brand Dali has announced the DALI BASIK SUB, a compact active subwoofer designed to add low-frequency extension to both music and home cinema systems.
The new DALI BASIK SUB Compact Active Subwoofer is positioned as a partner for compact bookshelf loudspeakers, including DALI’s KUPID and SONIK 1, and combines an 8-inch down-firing woofer with Class-D amplification and a choice of five cabinet colours.
The BASIK SUB is intended for use in 2.1 systems as well as home cinema setups, offering an alternative for listeners who want greater bass extension without moving to larger floorstanding loudspeakers.
DALI BASIK SUB USES 8-INCH DOWN-FIRING DRIVER
At the heart of the DALI BASIK SUB is an in-house designed 8-inch long-stroke woofer with a paper-pulp diaphragm. The driver uses an oversized ferrite magnet, a high-flux motor system and a long, vented voice coil.
The subwoofer has a down-firing configuration, while its four decoupled feet raise the cabinet 25 mm from the floor. DALI says this arrangement is intended to support the operation of the downward-facing driver while reducing vibrations.
CLASS-D AMPLIFICATION AND BASS REFLEX CABINET
The DALI BASIK SUB uses a bass reflex MDF enclosure and a Class-D amplifier rated at 170W RMS, with 220W peak power. A switch-mode power supply is used, while a built-in dual-stage limiter provides protection.
The compact cabinet measures 319 x 295 x 310 mm (H x W x D) and weighs 9.75 kg. According to the supplied specifications, the BASIK SUB also offers ON, AUTO and OFF power modes, with automatic standby engaging after approximately 20 minutes of signal inactivity. Standby power consumption is specified at 0.4W.
DALI BASIK SUB OFFERS FLEXIBLE SYSTEM CONNECTION
For system integration, the DALI BASIK SUB includes adjustable volume, crossover and phase controls. The crossover can be adjusted from 40–120Hz, while phase adjustment is available from 0–180 degrees.
Connections include stereo LINE L/R inputs for conventional HiFi systems and a dedicated mono LFE input for home cinema systems, AV receivers and streaming amplifiers with a subwoofer output. The controls are designed to allow the subwoofer to be matched with different loudspeakers and room setups.
FIVE COLOUR OPTIONS
The MDF cabinet will be available in Solid Black, Solid White, Caramel White, Golden Yellow and Chilly Blue. The colour options have been selected to complement DALI KUPID and SONIK 1 loudspeakers, although the BASIK SUB can be used with a wider range of compatible HiFi and home cinema systems.
DALI BASIK SUB PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The DALI BASIK SUB is scheduled for release in October. Pricing is €500, $800 and £429.
