Castle Tintagel And Castle Walmer Series Loudspeakers
CASTLE TINTAGEL AND WALMER SERIES LOUDSPEAKERS LAUNCHED WITH UK MANUFACTURING
Castle has introduced four new loudspeakers in the Castle Tintagel and Castle Walmer Series, with two standmount models and two floorstanders designed, engineered and manufactured in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.
The new models follow the Castle Windsor Earl and Castle Windsor Duke, which marked Castle’s return to UK manufacturing in 2023, and complete a three-series British-made range comprising Tintagel, Walmer and Windsor.
CASTLE TINTAGEL SERIES
The Tintagel range comprises the two-way Tintagel 1 standmount and the 2.5-way Tintagel 2 floorstander. Tintagel 1 uses a 130mm advanced fibre mid/bass driver and a 28mm silk-dome tweeter with a shallow waveguide, while Tintagel 2 features twin 150mm advanced fibre drivers alongside the same 28mm treble unit.
Both models use 8-ohm compatible impedance and are designed to work with a range of amplifiers. The standmount uses a rear bass reflex port, while the floorstander employs downward porting through its plinth. Cabinet construction includes cast alloy driver chassis, bitumen damping panels, internal bracing and long-fibre wool absorption.
CASTLE TINTAGEL AND WALMER SERIES OFFER DIFFERENT TECHNICAL APPROACHES
While the Tintagel models use advanced fibre cone drivers and silk-dome tweeters, the Walmer range introduces woven carbon fibre drive units and a true ribbon treble system. The Walmer 1 is a two-way standmount loudspeaker with a 130mm woven carbon fibre mid/bass driver and a 12x45mm ribbon tweeter.
The larger Walmer 2 is a three-way floorstanding loudspeaker featuring twin 150mm woven carbon fibre bass drivers, a dedicated 115mm woven carbon fibre midrange unit and the same 12x45mm true ribbon treble unit. Its midrange driver is housed in a separate internal enclosure.
CASTLE WALMER SERIES LOUDSPEAKERS
Walmer 2 uses a Mass Loaded Transmission Line system, described by Castle as an evolution of its quarter-wave technology. The system exits into an air volume formed by the plinth, with the loudspeaker specified to offer bass extension down to 32Hz at -6dB.
The Walmer models use low-loss crossover components, including polypropylene capacitors in the signal path and air-core coils in the treble and midrange filters. Walmer 1 is rated for amplifier power between 25W and 100W, while Walmer 2 is specified for 25W to 150W.
CASTLE CONTINUES ITS BRITISH MANUFACTURING PROGRAMME
Castle was founded in 1973 and built its early reputation around loudspeakers combining in-house acoustic engineering with real-wood cabinets. After entering receivership in 2006, the Castle brand and manufacturing processes were acquired by International Audio Group in 2007.
The company says its return to British manufacturing began with the Windsor series and has now expanded with the Tintagel and Walmer ranges. All four new loudspeakers are manufactured in the UK from design and development through to finishing, and are available in walnut or black oak real-wood veneer.
CASTLE TINTAGEL AND WALMER SERIES SPECIFICATIONS
Tintagel 1 has a quoted sensitivity of 86dB, frequency response of 55Hz-20kHz and recommended amplifier power of 30W-100W. Tintagel 2 increases sensitivity to 89dB, extends the quoted frequency response to 44Hz-20kHz and has a recommended amplifier range of 30W-150W.
Walmer 1 is specified at 86dB sensitivity with a 55Hz-22kHz frequency response, while Walmer 2 is rated at 89dB and 38Hz-22kHz. Minimum impedance is quoted at 4.3 ohms for Walmer 1 and 3.4 ohms for Walmer 2.
CASTLE TINTAGEL AND WALMER SERIES PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The Castle Tintagel 1 has an RRP of £1,999 per pair, while the Tintagel 2 is £2,999 per pair. The Walmer 1 is priced at £2,499 per pair and the Walmer 2 at £4,999 per pair. All four models will be available from September 2026.
