GENESIS ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES LAUNCHES BATTERY-POWERED SIMPLICITY PHONO

Genesis Simplicity Phono Preamplifier hifi news

Genesis Advanced Technologies has unveiled its new entry-level phono preamplifier, the Genesis Simplicity Phono.

Following the release of the Series 7 loudspeakers, this new model is intended to bring the design and engineering principles of Genesis’ higher-end phono preamplifiers to a more accessible format. The Simplicity Phono uses battery power instead of a conventional mains supply, simplifying operation and system integration for users.

GENESIS SIMPLICITY PHONO PREAMPLIFIER

The Genesis Simplicity Phono is based on the circuitry of the company’s Premium Platinum Phono and its earlier Gold Phono model. While these previous models employed more complex power supplies and components, the Simplicity Phono adopts a battery-powered design, reducing both complexity and cost. Genesis describes the Simplicity Phono as retaining the technical principles of the higher-end models, including phono preamplifier topology and signal path design, while providing a more straightforward user experience.

BATTERY-POWERED OPERATION

A defining feature of the Genesis Simplicity Phono is its reliance on 20 standard batteries for operation. This eliminates the need for an external power supply and allows for consistent performance without mains interference. Users simply insert the batteries, connect the phono preamplifier, and begin playback. The battery approach also simplifies installation, making the system suitable for both newcomers to vinyl playback and existing Genesis users seeking a secondary or portable phono solution.

USER-FRIENDLY DESIGN

The Genesis Simplicity Phono has been designed with ease of use in mind. The controls are minimal, removing the need for adjustments to gain, loading, or other parameters that can complicate phono preamplifier setup. Carolyn Koh, Vice President and COO of Genesis, highlighted that the design is intended to allow users to focus on listening rather than configuration, making it accessible to those unfamiliar with technical aspects of vinyl playback.

The Simplicity Phono is aimed at users entering the Genesis ecosystem, particularly following the launch of the Series 7 loudspeakers. Gary Leonard Koh, Chief Designer and CEO of Genesis, noted that while the Premium Platinum remains the company’s high-end option, the Simplicity Phono offers a more affordable alternative for new users. Initially developed for Mat Weisfeld at the American turntable brand VPI Industries, the design was adapted for wider distribution through Genesis’ global network of dealers and distributors.

TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN PRINCIPLES

The Genesis Simplicity Phono inherits the core engineering principles of the Gold and Premium Platinum models, including signal integrity, low-noise design, and phono preamplifier topology. While the higher-end models employ complex, regulated power supplies, the Simplicity Phono uses batteries to maintain consistent performance while simplifying the overall design. This approach reduces component count, potential interference, and the need for mains conditioning, while keeping the system compact and easy to integrate.

The Simplicity Phono is designed to fit easily into typical home audio setups. Its input and output options align with standard phono configurations, supporting both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges. The minimal control layout reflects its plug-and-play philosophy, requiring little user adjustment beyond connecting a turntable and amplifier. The compact design also allows it to be integrated into a variety of listening environments without the need for specialised furniture or isolation equipment.

Battery operation also provides a degree of isolation from mains fluctuations, which can contribute to consistent performance over time. Replacing the batteries is straightforward, and users are not required to service complex internal power circuits, reducing long-term maintenance considerations.

GENESIS SIMPLICITY PHONO PRICE

The Genesis Simplicity Phono will be available through Genesis dealers and distributors worldwide. The suggested retail price is $7,500.
