KEF CI5120QLM-THX AND CI3120QLM-THX ARCHITECTURAL SPEAKERS ANNOUNCED
KEF has added two new architectural loudspeakers to its Extreme Home Theatre range: the KEF CI5120QLM-THX and CI3120QLM-THX.
Both models are intended for discreet installation in home cinemas or mixed-use living spaces, with design elements that build on technology from the company’s existing loudspeaker lines.
UNI-Q WITH MAT IN THE KEF CI5120QLM-THX AND CI3120QLM-THX
The two speakers use KEF’s 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array, which serves as a point-source layout to help maintain consistent dispersion. The Uni-Q unit incorporates Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT), designed to absorb high-frequency energy from the rear of the tweeter. According to KEF, this approach supports cleaner and more controlled high-frequency performance.
BASS DRIVER DESIGN AND SYSTEM LAYOUT
The Ci5120QLM-THX and Ci3120QLM-THX both feature 120mm long-throw bass drivers. The Ci5120QLM-THX uses four of these units, while the Ci3120QLM-THX employs two. Each model is built as a three-way system with crossovers configured to allocate frequency bands appropriately across the drivers.
ENGINEERING ELEMENTS FOR CONTROL AND STABILITY
KEF includes several structural features aimed at reducing unwanted mechanical effects. These include the Flexible Decoupling Chassis, intended to limit vibration transfer, and a revised tweeter gap damper designed to manage resonances. These components work in combination with the system layout to help maintain clarity and stability across the frequency range.
THX CERTIFICATION FOR THE KEF CI5120QLM-THX AND CI3120QLM-THX
Both speakers hold THX certification based on criteria for output, frequency response, and distortion. The Ci5120QLM-THX is THX Certified Ultra, recommended for larger listening spaces, while the Ci3120QLM-THX is THX Certified Select, suited to medium-sized rooms. KEF notes that these classifications apply to music, TV, film, and gaming use.
DISCREET INSTALLATION AND INTEGRATION
The Ci5120QLM-THX and Ci3120QLM-THX are designed with KEF’s Ultra-Thin Bezel and a paintable magnetic grille to blend into surrounding décor. Both models meet IP64 standards for dust and splash resistance, allowing for flexibility across different installations.
