AURORA SQ-20 AND AURORA SQ-10 LOUDSPEAKERS ANNOUNCED BY D’VON AUDIO
New British HiFi brand, D’Von Audio, is making its debut with the launch of the D’Von Audio Aurora SQ-20 And Aurora SQ-10 Loudspeakers.
D’Von Audio has announced that the first model in its new Aurora loudspeaker line, the D’Von Audio Aurora SQ-20, is launching this week, with the Aurora SQ-10 and matching stands to follow in January. The range will be offered in black, white, and black/white with birch-front satin finishes.
ABOUT D’VON AUDIO
D’Von Audio is a Devon-based loudspeaker maker founded and run by Chris Priddle, whose interest in building speakers began while he was still at school. What started as a personal hobby, designing cabinets and stands and later developing his own designs in a home garage, grew into D’Von Audio Limited in 2019. Today the company produces handmade loudspeakers in the Southwest of England, with each cabinet built from European-sourced hidrofugo MDF, internally braced, and finished with UK-sourced damping materials. All units are tested in the brand’s own anechoic chamber, matched in pairs, and auditioned in-house before despatch. The Aurora series marks the next stage in the company’s development, with a floorstander, the Aurora SQ-40 and further ranges, including Olympus, planned to follow.
D’VON AUDIO AURORA SQ-20
The Aurora SQ-20 is a two-way loudspeaker measuring H390 x W205 x D288mm and weighing 9.5kg. It is rated at 4 ohms with a quoted sensitivity of 87dB. The crossover point is 2100Hz, with a port tuned to 48Hz. D’Von Audio specifies a frequency response of 50Hz–22kHz (±3.5dB), with a claimed in-room extension from 36Hz to 22kHz.
The Aurora SQ-20 tweeter is a 26mm soft dome unit designed with damping in the pole cavity to limit internal reflections. It uses a fine-wave diaphragm for a smoother response, a saturation-controlled motor system intended to reduce distortion, a CCAW (copper-clad aluminium wire) voice coil for lower moving mass, and silver lead wires.
The Aurora SQ-20 woofer features a 6in Rohacell/carbon-fibre sandwich cone engineered for a balance of rigidity and damping. It sits in a vented cast aluminium chassis to improve structural integrity and reduce compression effects. Additional elements include a low-damping rubber surround for improved transient behaviour, a non-conductive fibreglass former for higher damping, an extended copper sleeve on the pole piece to reduce inductance and distortion, and a CCAW voice coil.
D’VON AUDIO AURORA SQ-10 DEVELOPMENT AND SPECIFICATIONS
The Aurora SQ-10 is also a two-way design and remains in late-stage development. Current specifications include a 19mm soft dome tweeter and a 5in carbon-fibre woofer. The speaker is rated at 4 ohms, weighs 7.2kg, and uses a port tuning frequency of 58Hz. Finalised data is expected closer to launch in January.
