HEDD AUDIO HEDDPHONE D1 INTRODUCED WITH THIN-PLY CARBON DIAPHRAGM TECHNOLOGY

HEDD Audio has announced the HEDDphone D1, a new full-size headphone featuring a dynamic driver built around Thin-Ply Carbon Diaphragm (TPCD) technology.

The HEDD Audio HEDDphone D1  marks the Berlin-based company’s first entry into dynamic-driver headphones, following its work in professional studio monitoring and the Air Motion Transformer (AMT) loudspeaker driver.

HEDD AUDIO HEDDPHONE D1

The HEDDphone D1 has been in development for eight years. The project reflects HEDD Audio’s goal of applying advanced materials engineering to headphone design. The diaphragm at the centre of the new driver was created in collaboration with Composite Sound of Sweden, a company that specialises in precision diaphragm manufacturing. Founder Klaus Heinz’s long history in acoustics and transducer design also informed the D1’s approach.

THIN-PLY CARBON DIAPHRAGM (TPCD) EXPLAINED

The diaphragm material, Thin-Ply Carbon, is composed of extremely thin layers of carbon fibre arranged in a controlled structure. This construction is commonly found in high-performance applications such as motorsport and aerospace due to its combination of low weight, strength, and stability.

In the D1, this becomes the Thin-Ply Carbon Diaphragm (TPCD), designed to reduce resonances and remove the need for traditional damping materials applied directly to the diaphragm. This is intended to allow cleaner and more controlled driver movement across the frequency range.

SOUND AND PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS

The HEDDphone D1 is described as aiming to achieve studio-grade precision along with the more intimate listening experience associated with headphones. The lightweight diaphragm and compact driver assembly contribute to a headphone intended for extended listening comfort.

The specifications include 32 Ω impedance and 100 dB sensitivity, making the model compatible with a wide range of headphone amplifiers, portable players, and interfaces, while still allowing performance scaling when used with higher-end sources.

Production of the HEDDphone D1 takes place in Germany, with its TPCD diaphragms manufactured exclusively in Sweden. The headphone is designed to be serviceable, with replacement parts supported. HEDD Audio provides a five-year warranty.

HEDD AUDIO HEDDPHONE D1 PRICE & AVAILABILITY
