TECHNICS GRAND CLASS SL-1200GME AND SL-1210GME MASTER EDITION UNVEILED AT WARSAW
While we were at the Audio Video Show Warsaw 2025, Technics announced the limited-edition Technics SL-1200GME and Technics SL-1210GME Grand Class Master Edition turntables, marking the ultimate edition of the brand’s iconic SL-1200 Series.
This “Master Edition” introduces Technics’ ΔΣ-Drive (Delta Sigma Drive) motor control technology to the flagship “G” platform for the first time, promising enhanced rotational precision and reduced vibration.

First introduced in 1972, the SL-1200 has become one of the most recognised turntables in the world. Following its 2016 revival as the SL-1200GAE, Technics has continued refining its direct drive technology. The new Master Edition reflects ten years of ongoing improvement, combining the heritage of the original design with the latest digital motor control advancements.

ΔΣ-DRIVE MOTOR CONTROL TECHNOLOGY
At the heart of the SL-1200GME and SL-1210GME is Technics’ ΔΣ-Drive motor system, adapted from its full-digital amplifiers. This technology generates a precise sine wave signal to power the coreless direct drive motor, minimising vibrations and ensuring exceptionally smooth rotation. The motor design also includes a hybrid encoder using a Hall sensor to maintain speed accuracy, even when compensating for warped records.

The Master Edition models employ an enhanced iron-coreless double-rotor/single-stator motor. A reinforced stator board and non-magnetic screws further suppress micro-vibrations, contributing to stable, noise-free playback. Each turntable’s platter is individually balanced to ensure perfect rotation accuracy.

As with previous “G” series models, the SL-1200GME and SL-1210GME feature a 4-layer chassis made from aluminium die-cast and BMC (Bulk Moulding Compound), with a 10mm brushed aluminium top plate and heavy-damping rubber base. The three-layer platter combines aluminium, brass, and rubber for improved mass and resonance control, weighing 3.6kg in total. The S-shaped magnesium tonearm uses precision bearings for accurate groove tracking, while α-gel damping feet isolate the turntable from external vibration.
ADVANCED POWER SUPPLY TECHNOLOGY
The turntables incorporate Technics’ new Multi-stage Silent Power Supply, similar to that used in the SL-1000R reference model. Operating at over 100kHz, the system includes a noise-cancelling circuit that injects reversed-phase current to eliminate residual noise. This design achieves a very low noise floor, improving signal purity and enhancing dynamic range.

DISTINCTIVE MASTER EDITION DESIGN
To mark their limited status, both models feature gold-coloured details including the tonearm, Technics logo, and “Master Edition” serial badge. Each unit is individually numbered, with production limited to 1,200 pieces in silver (SL-1200GME) and 1,210 pieces in black (SL-1210GME).
ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS PACKAGING
In line with Technics’ sustainability efforts, the SL-1200GME and SL-1210GME use packaging made entirely from shaped cardboard instead of expanded polystyrene. The design ensures full protection for transport while reducing environmental impact and simplifying recycling.

CLOSING THE CHAPTER ON THE “G” SERIES
Technics has confirmed that production of the SL-1200G and SL-1210G models will conclude at the end of 2025 due to parts discontinuation. However, other models in the SL-1200 range, including the SL-1200GR2 and SL-1200MK7, will continue. The Master Edition is intended as both a collector’s item and the final expression of the company’s engineering philosophy for the “G” line.
