MICHELL AUDIO INTRODUCES NEW GYRO AND REVOLV TURNTABLES

New Michell Gyro And Michell Revolv Turntables hifi news

Two new designs mark major steps for the British HiFi brand Michell, with the updating of the Michell Gyro and the new Michell Revolv.

With the launch of the new Michell Gyro and Michell Revolv, Michell Audio reaffirms its position at the forefront of British HiFi engineering. Both models share a design language rooted in mechanical precision, vibration control, and enduring build quality.

For listeners seeking the ultimate expression of Michell’s engineering heritage, the new Gyro represents the latest evolution of a true HiFi icon. The Revolv, meanwhile, opens the door to Michell’s design principles at a more accessible level, maintaining the company’s trademark attention to detail and musical integrity.

NEW MICHELL GYRO TURNTABLE

The latest version of the iconic Michell Gyro turntable is a model that has defined the company’s design philosophy since the GyroDec first appeared in 1982. The new Gyro retains its instantly recognisable aesthetic but features an entirely re-engineered structure aimed at elevating performance while preserving the heritage that made it a HiFi classic.

Central to the redesign is a precision-machined, solid 19mm aerospace-grade aluminium chassis, replacing the cast aluminium of previous generations. This upgrade ensures consistent mechanical behaviour throughout the structure, reducing colouration and improving imaging and energy control. Michell’s engineers employed advanced analysis tools, including finite element analysis and AI-assisted modelling, to optimise vibration control, mass distribution, and damping, resulting in a lower noise floor and greater musical precision, Michell tells us.

GYRO INNOVATIONS ENHANCE PERFORMANCE

The familiar three-point suspension has been refined with a new self-centring mechanism known as Equilibria™, lowering the system’s resonant frequency from 4.5Hz to 3.5Hz. This development delivers tighter low-frequency control and enhanced pitch stability. The addition of custom Sorbothane™ feet, featuring six contact nodes per foot, further reduces vibration.

Michell’s signature inverted bearing now incorporates a double helix oil pump, doubling the lubricant flow to minimise friction. The motor assembly is a new shielded design with integrated grounding and electronic speed control for both 33.3 and 45 RPM operation. The result is quieter performance and smoother operation.

MICHELL GYRO DESIGN UPDATES AND CONSTRUCTION

While recognisably a Gyro, the new model features several stylistic refinements. The Delrin platter now sports a clean, grooveless edge for a sleeker look, while the base has transitioned from acrylic to a high-mass aluminium platform. This change enhances rigidity and allows the suspension and feet to operate with greater predictability.

MICHELL REVOLV TURNTABLE

Alongside the new Gyro, Michell Audio has introduced the Revolv, a new turntable designed to bring the company’s signature engineering and design ethos to a wider audience. Positioned between the TecnoDec and Gyro models, the Revolv draws heavily from the Gyro’s technical innovations while maintaining a more compact and accessible format.

The Revolv employs a rigid, high-mass design based around a 19mm aerospace-grade aluminium chassis machined from a single billet. Its structure provides excellent vibration control through mechanical grounding and damping. Six Sorbothane™ contact nodes within each foot isolate the deck from external disturbances, maintaining low resonance and precise energy transfer.

MICHELL REVOLV FEATURES AND TECHNOLOGY

Like the Gyro, the Revolv incorporates Michell’s renowned inverted bearing design, here using a mono-helix oil channel to ensure consistent lubrication and smooth, low-friction rotation. The Delrin® platter, complete with the familiar solid brass weights, provides speed stability and damping characteristics closely matched to vinyl, designed to ensure a neutral sonic character and minimal wow and flutter.

Drive is provided by a new, isolated free-standing motor system with a highly regulated, grounded, and electromagnetically shielded power supply. The clamshell housing, machined from a single billet of aluminium, follows the aesthetic cues of Michell’s Apollo phono stage. Speed control for 33.3 and 45 RPM is handled electronically.

REVOLV DESIGN ETHOS AND HERITAGE

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the Revolv embodies Michell’s commitment to longevity, modular design, and upgradeable architecture. Its minimalist form and robust engineering are intended to provide a lifetime of performance and pride of ownership. The turntable’s design reflects decades of research and development derived from the Gyro, creating a bridge between Michell’s entry-level and high-end offerings.

According to Michell Audio managing director Jonathan Nye, the Revolv “blends the key innovations of the Gyro with a refined TecnoDec platform, offering exceptional musical detail and control”.
