INTEGRATED MULTI-ZONE AUDIO CONTROL WITH MCINTOSH CR106 6-ZONE PREAMPLIFIER / AUDIO MATRIX
McIntosh has unveiled the McIntosh CR106 6-Zone Preamplifier / Audio Matrix, a new component aimed at streamlining and elevating whole-home audio.
Designed to handle multiple zones from a single unit, the McIntosh CR106 brings together preamplifier and audio matrix functionality for centralised control of music across different rooms, offering flexibility for varied listening preferences throughout the home.

The CR106 can be configured via the McIntosh Connect app (available for Apple and Android), a web interface, or the unit’s front panel. Users can manage each zone independently—assigning names, choosing audio sources, adjusting volume, and grouping zones. Subwoofer settings for each zone can also be customised. Additionally, users can create and save “Experiences,” which recall preferred input and volume settings, providing quick access to familiar setups.
EXPANDABLE CONNECTIVITY
Offering four unbalanced analogue and four digital inputs, the CR106 connects easily to a wide variety of source components. For larger systems, up to five CR106 units can be linked via Dante® network technology, supporting up to 30 two-channel zones. Each zone includes two unbalanced outputs and a dedicated subwoofer output. Bluetooth streaming is also built-in, supporting AAC, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive for wireless, high-resolution audio.
COMPACT DESIGN FOR EASY INSTALLATION AND RACK MOUNTING
The CR106 is designed with integration in mind, fitting neatly into standard A/V racks with just 2U of space required. Rack mounting brackets are included, and its unbalanced audio outputs make it compatible with a wide range of home audio amplifiers. McIntosh also recommends pairing the CR106 with in-wall or in-ceiling speakers for a discreet installation, and an optional MIP200 Power Controller can be added to protect connected audio equipment from electrical issues.

The McIntosh CR106 6-Zone Preamplifier / Audio Matrix will be available through authorised McIntosh dealers beginning August 2025. The unit is priced at £6,999 GBP / $5,500 USD / $8,800 CAD / €7,499 EUR.
